I swear...I won't stop no matter what. I'll keep on walking as long as I live.
— Allen's pledge to Mana upon joining the Black Order

Allen Walker[1] (アレン・ウォーカー, Aren Wōkā?) is the main protagonist and a reference to the series D.Gray-man. Allen is a former Exorcist and a former member of the European Branch of the Black Order. He is the adoptive son of Mana Walker, the elder brother of Nea D. Campbell, and the former apprentice of Exorcist General, Cross Marian making him part of the Marian Unit. Allen is usually seen with Timcanpy by his side.

Allen Walker in the manga

Allen is a male teenager of average height (though Kanda often teases Allen about his height, Yu Kanda himself is a tall individual, so Allen's height is actually common for his age) with a lean, muscular physique which, over the course of time, has become heavily marred with scars. He has medium-length gray/white hair that has now grown to shoulder-length, silver/gray (purple in the Hallow anime) eyes, and his skin is somewhat pale. His eyebrows and eyelashes are the same color as his hair. Allen has an unusual scar on the left side of his face that starts as a pentagram on his forehead, trailing down in a line that severs his eyebrow and mars his eyelid, and hooks slightly at his cheekbone and follows his cheek down close to his chin. It also has an extra line of scar tissue that runs parallel to his lower eyelid. This scar was given to him by Mana Walker, after Allen turned him into an Akuma. The scar is also the source of his Cursed Eye, which allows him to detect Akuma and see the human souls bound to their bodies.

Allen's parasitic type Innocence takes the form of the entirety of his left arm, from his shoulder down. Originally, it was red and quite veinous, but after he invoked his Crown Clown for the first time, the skin became much darker and more scale-like, his fingernails turning black and growing out and arrow-shaped markings forming along his shoulder blade. When his arm evolved further, the skin seemed to smooth out more.

Because of his odd hair color and his strange arm, Allen has a tendency to cover his hair with hats and hoods, wearing gloves and long-sleeved shirts to keep people from seeing his arm.

Allen's Exorcist uniforms often consist of concealing jackets and gloves, as well as pants and heavy duty boots, though Allen's latest uniform features a shorter jacket and capri-like pants. He always asks for gloves to be included so he can keep his hand hidden, though recently Allen has gotten more comfortable with showing his hand when he is around his comrades.

Allen's natural hair color was reddish-brown; his hair turned white from the shock of reviving Mana as an Akuma and destroying him. Allen revealed to Timothy that he had tried to dye it numerous times, but eventually gave up as it would return to white in no time.

When in his Noah form, Allen has the typical dark-skin tone and stilted amber eyes. So far only a glimpse of his stigma was seen[2]. Unlike the other Noah his hair seem to remain white like Wisely's.

 Golem

Main article: Timcanpy Allen has a peculiar golem named Timcanpy. Initially he was temporarily looking after him for his master, but Cross later revealed he had always intended for Allen to inherit Timcanpy. Timcanpy is mostly golden yellow with a lighter yellow cross across its front. His body is spherical, with small horns and legs. He also has large wings and a long tail. Having been created by Cross, Timcanpy is vastly different from the standard communication golems used by Black Order personnel; though he cannot be used as a means of communication, he has incredible regenerative abilities, built-in recording functions, and the ability to shape-shift (he can grow large enough to hold two people in his mouth and back to his original golf-ball size in an instant). He also seems to be sentient and highly intelligent, being able to communicate with humans and showing emotions.

Personality

Allen usually portrays himself as a kind, generous, and very polite young man. He refuses to accept gifts of other that he estimates he didn't earn. [3]He tends to be very self-sacrificing, often willing to let his body and emotions take devastating blows for the sake of others; this trait is something that has angered several of his comrades and friends, most noticeably Yu Kanda and Lenalee Lee. Allen also has an unassuming and borderline naive appearance, despite the troubled life his master, Cross Marian, forced him to live. Because of his Cursed Eye, which allows him to see the human souls bound to Akuma, Allen considers Akuma to be just as important to him as humans, swearing his left arm to saving Akuma and his right to saving humans. Kanda believes him to be too idealistic for his own good and doesn't hesitate to tell him this, saying an Exorcist is simply a destroyer and that they'll never be anyone's savior, though Allen claims that they can be both, pushing him to be, as he once put it, "a destroyer that saves".

Over time, Allen's personality has seen a shift. Several times, his "dark side", which is a result of him perfecting his poker skills to pay back Cross's debts, has shown itself, frequently shocking and scaring those around him. He is an expert at cheating in poker, which is shown for the first time when he brought Tyki Mikk (disguised as a human) and his two friends down to their underwear without any of them noticing what he was up to. He has also begun using less formal speech around his close friends, something noted by and encouraged by Lenalee and Johnny Gill. The one person who can consistently make Allen break his polite mold is fellow Exorcist Yu Kanda. Their differing views but similar "darkness", as it is described by Noise Marie, lead to them conflicting and arguing almost constantly, sometimes over menial issues. He also has a strong hatred for the Millennium Earl due to their history.

As a child, Allen was abandoned by his family because of his 'abnormal' left arm and sold to a circus. He was taken in by Mana Walker, a retired circus clown and began travelling with him. Mana later died, and the desperate Allen was tricked by the Millennium Earl into bringing him back. A furious Mana then cursed Allen, slashing at the left side of his face. Allen's arm, which is actually a piece of Innocence, then activated without his consent and started chasing after Mana. After Mana told Allen he loved him and begged to be destroyed, Allen's arm exorcised Mana's Akuma, killing him a second time. After this ordeal, Allen's hair turned white from shock, and his left eye is cursed to perpetually see the suffering souls bound within Akuma, leading to his decision to live for their sake.

Originally, Allen was a rough and embittered child, speaking rudely and being very brash, probably due to his suffering at the hands of the greedy Ringmaster and the violent clown, Cosimo. In a stark contrast to the gentlemanly older Allen, he honestly shows his strong emotions. He also refrains from getting attached to others and considers friends unnecessary, as he hopes to one day leave the ruthless circus and lead his own life, though he later came to love Mana dearly as they traveled together, considering him his father.

Following Mana's death, after spending over a month in a lifeless, unresponsive state, he resurfaced bearing Mana's personality, becoming much more polite. Cross seems troubled by this development from the start, and has expressed that he prefers Allen's 'dark side' because it was closer to how he used to behave. He often refers to Allen as wearing Mana's "mask" (仮面=おもいで), though the furigana actually reads 'memories', hinting that even now, Allen kept the memory of Mana alive through his own personality in order to cope with the loss.

Allen seems to believe in God's existence (once referring to his arm as "the crucifix of God that lies within me"), though he has stated he doesn't care about 'such a thing'; Allen had come to consider the Order and his comrades his second "true home" after Mana, but he is not simply fighting in the name of God, but rather for the vows he made to Mana, his friends and himself.[4] He is also shown to greatly resent Suman's Innocence after its judgment cruelly left Suman alive but without a mind. After the truth of the Second Exorcist Project is revealed to him, he openly defies the Order by letting Kanda and Alma escape, due to his disdain with the Order's higher echelons and their questionable methods. He is also greatly disgusted with the idea of joining with Apocryphos after learning what it has done to Cross.

Allen is a big eater. He is seen taking tons of plates for his meals. This is a trait shared by all parasitic type accomodator but in Allen's case this is even more extreme. Fellow parasitic-type Arystar Krory thinks that Allen uses this as an excuse to eat so much which hides other issues.

Allen has shown some shades of pride, refusing to run away from a Noah even when cautioned by Komui (which nearly led to his Innocence's second destruction). Tyki Mikk called him arrogant for believing he could deprive him of his Noah without hurting him.

History

Allenkid

Allen prior to his meeting with Mana

Allen was abandoned by his biological parents because of the supposed deformity of his left arm (which was later revealed to be caused by his Innocence). He was presumably sold by them (or other people) to a traveling circus in which his deformity could be used as a freak show. But with Allen refusing to become a freak to entertain others, he instead had to do odd jobs for the circus in order to survive. Having no name at the time, Allen was often referred to as "Red," in reference to his deformed left arm and the color of his hair. For the most part, Red was largely shunned and ignored by the circus troupe, with the exception of the clown, Cosimov. Cosimov was a jealous and sadistic clown who took pleasure in beating Red and would often blame Red for his mistakes. And with the new clown quickly gaining popularity over Cosimov, Cosimov's abusive behavior towards Red grew even more severe. That's when Red met a dog, who he became friends with. But due to the jealousy that Cosimov held towards the dog owner (the new clown), Cosimov tried to kill the dog by intimidating Red into mixing broken glass into the dog's food. When Red refused, he was beaten by Cosimov again.[7]

Allen 8 Child

Allen following his adoption by Mana

On Christmas Day, Red found the dog dead and lying outside the circus with its owner, Mana Walker, who is in grief upon discovering that his dog had been beaten to death. After grieving alongside Mana, Red finally learned that the dog's name was "Allen." Mana, who couldn't cry for Allen, thanked Red for crying in his place. When asked by Red why Mana would neither cry nor take revenge for Allen's death, Mana explained that it would only create more sadness which will lead the way to the Millennium Earl. Red, who didn't know the Millennium Earl at the time, didn't think too much of it. As Red continued to spend more time with Mana, he gradually began to open himself up to Mana's kindness. He even allowed himself to perform with Mana during a circus show despite his hatred of performing. That's when Cosimov revealed himself to be the culprit who killed Allen, causing Red to attack him in anger. But just before Red could land an attack on Cosimov, he is stopped by Mana who took the blow instead. Mana urged Allen to stop because revenge will only cause more sadness. However, Red, angered by the fact Mana took the hit for someone like Cosimov, continually beat Mana into a bloody pulp (with his hard, heavy left hand) for his idiotic kindness.

During all the commotion, Cosimov managed to fool the troupe into believing Red was the one who killed the dog. As Red is put into a cage, the Millennium Earl appeared with a legion of Akuma and slaughtered everyone in the circus. After escaping, Red found Mana covered in blood and mentally unstable. Mana kept calling Red "Allen", even when Red told him that Allen is already dead. Red realised that he must have damaged Mana's memories when he beat him, and was overcome with guilt. As Mana continued to refer to Red as "Allen" with a smile, Red swore that he'd become Mana's Allen and be by his side to repay and atone for the kindness that Mana has shown him. Thus, Red became known as Allen and they began to travel together as father and son.

Allen and earl first meet

The Earl telling Allen he can bring Mana back

After travelling together for some time, Mana suddenly passed away. Allen, who was overcome with grief and sorrow, was manipulated by the Millennium Earl into bringing him back. Realizing that Allen has turned him into an Akuma, Mana cursed Allen's left eye, leaving a scar of the "Pentacle" (the mark of the Akuma) on the left side of Allen's face. Allen's left eye then gained the ability to see the trapped souls within Akuma. It was also at that moment Allen's left arm first invoked into an anti-Akuma weapon and instinctively destroyed his beloved father against his will. Before Mana was destroyed by Allen, he once again told Allen with all his soul that he loved him, causing Allen's bright red hair (brown in the anime) to turn stark white from the sadness and trauma. Afterwards, Cross Marian, a General of the Black Order, approached Allen and took him under his wings.

Departing

Allen having recovered and Cross on the depart

Having killed his father with his own hands, Allen fell into a state of despair and refused to move or talk. He took Mana's death so hard that he simply gave up on living. During this vulnerable time, Cross nursed Allen back to health at his church with Mother and Barba.[8]. After Cross encouraged him to fight on, spurring him with Mana's favorite motto; "Don't stop, keep walking.", Allen finally regained his will to live and spoke to Cross. However, in contrast to his original brash and negative personality, Allen became a polite and kindhearted child, imitating Mana as he remembered him.

Cross then introduces Timcanpy to Allen. With Timcanpy between his hands, Allen asks if people can befriend a golems and Cross replies that he can keep it for the night. Allen asks if He can become friends with Tim and Cross slams the door, claiming he doesn't care. From then on, Allen traveled with them with Timcanpy most of the time by his side: Sleeping with him as his pillow, carring him in a shoulder strap, watching him during the fights.  [24]

Allen then resolved to become an Exorcist to atone for what he did to Mana, subsequently becoming Cross's disciple and spending the next three years training with him before being sent to the Black Order to become an official Exorcist. During this time, Allen was tormented by his master's constant irresponsible behavior and is forced into gambling to pay off the debts that Cross accumulated. This, coupled with Cross' womanizing ways and harsh treatment towards him, led to Allen's fear of his master whom he never speaks fondly of. In fact, when Jasdevi claims that Cross is like a demon, Allen denies this and instead insists that Cross is a real demon. In addition, when Jasdevi revealed that the debts Cross left them reached 100 guineas, Allen grows demon horns, laughs at them, and calls their debts small change in comparison to his own, leaving Lavi to wonder just how much money Allen's been made to pay. For Cross however, the abuse he constantly gives Allen is his way of getting back at him for all the time and effort he wasted taking care of him.

In addition to being physically fit and skilled at combat (as evident by his ability to fight and dodge Fō without the use of his Innocence), Allen has a few odd talents and skills. Because of the enormous debts Allen was forced into paying by Cross, he learned to play cards and gamble at a very young age. (In the anime his initial purpose was to practice his paralyzed and deformed left hand). He also learned how to cheat and win through deception and does not hesitate to use such tactics when necessary. In fact, he is quite proud of his talents. This is a stark contrast to his polite and courteous nature and often surprises his friends, who wouldn't expect such a dark side to Allen, causing them to wonder just what Cross has done to him. He also possesses circus abilities such as juggling and acrobatics, which he learned during his time travelling with Mana.

Inspector Lvellie and Cross have both referred to him as the "player" (as in one who plays a musical instrument), and Cross has hinted that there may be more than one.

In the anime, Allen had a friend named Narain in India.

Plot

Introduction

Allen first appears in London with Timcanpy, who got eaten by a stray cat. Chasing after the cat, Allen wanders into a "cursed" church where he is handcuffed by a police woman named Moore. Soon after, Moore's colleague Charles is attacked and killed by an Akuma, leaving Moore unconscious. After taking her to the local police station, Allen is interrogated by the Britannic Police Inspector under suspicion of killing Charles. But with no concrete evidence, they are forced to let Allen go free. As the investigation continues, Allen is entrusted to Moore and is taken to her house. This is where Allen discovers that Moore's brother-in-law, Marc, is the Akuma that killed Charles. In truth, the Marc they see before them is actually Moore's late sister, Claire, who has take over Marc's body after being turned into an Akuma. Allen then explains to Moor the existence of Akuma and the Millennium Earl who creates them. When a person calls out to the soul of a dead loved one, the Millennium Earl can entrap that soul and bind it to his will. He will then force the soul to kill and take over that person's body and turn them into an Akuma. The only way to free the soul of Akuma is by liberating them with the Innocence. After a brief fight, Allen is able to destroy the Akuma and free Claire's soul from the Millennium Earl. He bids Moore farewell and continues his way towards the Order's HQ.

Reunion with the Millennium Earl (Manga Only)

While travelling through a town, Allen hears someone screaming about Akuma and quickly rushes towards them. However, it turns out it was only a prank played by a local boy, Jan. But upon closer inspection, Allen's left eye is able to detect an Akuma and he quickly destroys it before it can harm Jan. After being asked about how he knows about Akuma, Jan reveals himself to be the son of a scientist who works for the Vatican. Allen then warns him not to poke into things like the Akuma and the Millennium Earl. Angry, Jan stuns Allen with an onion bomb that he created and runs back home. After coming back to his senses, Allen decides to find the boy again to try to convince him to stop pursuing the Millennium Earl. Upon arriving at Jan's house, Jan and his friend Leo manage to escape from Allen and head towards the cemetery. Allen quickly follows them after seeing that Leo is an Akuma. When Allen arrives, he finds the Millennium Earl with the boys, telling Jan that his friend Leo has been turned into an Akuma.

Allen quickly rushes towards Leo in attempt to destroy the Akuma. But not wanting Allen to destroy his friend, Jan gets in his way. Leo, now an Akuma, quickly opens fire upon Jan, who is in shock. Allen manage to protect Jan but had to take the hit himself. As Allen's skin begins to crumble under the Akuma's weapon, the Earl once again mocks Jan for being a weakling and how Allen has wasted his life to protect someone as useless as Jan. The Earl then explains that the ugliness of the Akuma is not his doing but the image that reflects the human heart. After dispelling the curse from his body with his Innocence, Allen proclaims that he can see the soul of Akuma. That's when the Earl realizes that he's met Allen before and Allen is the boy who turned his father into an Akuma. Allen, after reminding the Earl of his deed, engages in battle with the Akuma the Earl has summoned. Jan, finally accepting the fact that Leo can't be saved, pleads for Allen to destroy Leo. With that, the Earl retreats, and Allen deactivates his Anti-Akuma weapon and falls onto ground. Jan, who is in despair of Leo's death and the events that has unfolded, finds comfort in Allen's arms. After healing up, Allen bids Jan farewell and continues on his way to the Order's HQ.

The Order's Headquarters

Kanda vs allen

Allen and Kanda's first meeting.

When Allen arrives at the Order's HQ, the Gatekeeper mistakes him for an accomplice of the Millennium Earl because of the Pentacle Mark on his left eye. Kanda, who has just returned from a mission, quickly heads out to eliminate Allen. This misunderstanding is straightened out after Allen's letter of recommendation from General Cross is finally found on Komui Lee's very cluttered desk. With this, Lenalee invites Allen in and takes him to Komui, who offers to fix his anti-Akuma weapon, which was damaged by Kanda. After examining Allen's Innocence, Komui concludes that Allen is a parasite type. Komui then goes on to repair Allen's arm in a ferocious fashion, traumatizing Allen to a huge extent. Afterwards, Allen is taken by Komui to meet Hevlaska who predicts Allen to be the "Destroyer of Time". The meaning of this is never really explained, but Bookman theorizes that "time" refers specifically to the "millennium" or even more specifically, the Millennium Earl. In essence, it is believed that this prophecy means Allen will be the one to someday destroy the Millennium Earl.

After getting inspected by Hevlaska, Komui explains to Allen about the Innocence and the purpose of the Order. The Innocence was left behind by their predecessors who fought and won against the Millennium Earl 7000 years ago during Noah's Flood a.k.a Three Days of Darkness. However, the "Three Days of Darkness" will come again and it is up to the Order to stop it. To do so, they must find the rest of the 109 pieces of Innocence and guide them to their respective user before the the Millennium Earl finds and destroys them. After briefing Allen of his duty and welcoming him into the Order as an exorcist, Allen is sent to his room to await further orders. While in his room, Allen reaffirms his promise to Mana to never stop walking no matter how cruel and hard his path may be.

The Ghost of Mater

With Allen on standby, Lenalee Lee takes the opportunity to show him around the Order. Allen is able to meet many of the Order's members and quickly becomes familiar with the chef Jeryy due to Allen's huge appetite. But upon arriving at the kitchen, Allen notices that Kanda has started a fight with the Finders there, saying that Finders are useless runts that can't do anything but support exorcists. Before Kanda is able to strike a Finder, Allen intervenes and stands up to Kanda. This is Allen's second confrontation with Kanda which earns him the name Bean Sprout.

After being summoned to the head office, Komui gives Allen his first assignment: find a piece of Innocence in the town of Mater. Allen is partnered with a reluctant Kanda, and a Finder named Toma and they leave for Mater in Italy. Upon arrival, they discover that the Finders station in Mater is under attack by three Akuma and is on the verge of annihilation. Allen quickly joins the battle in an attempt to prevent any more deaths and attacks the Akuma who just turned Level 2. Kanda, who ignores Allen, manages to kill two of the three Akuma and secure the Ghost of Mater who contains the Innocence. With the Innocence secured, Kanda decides to head out first, leaving Allen behind to deal with the Level 2 Akuma alone.

Against a Level 2 Akuma with the ability to copy, wear, and shed people's appearance like a second skin, Allen is overpowered and crashes into the underground sewer of Mater. Guided by Timcanpy, Allen manages to arrive just in time to stop Kanda from killing Toma, who Kanda thought was the Akuma pretending to be Allen. In reality, the Akuma was actually pretending to be Toma and made the real Toma wear Allen's appearance as a trap. With Kanda tricked by the double trap, the Akuma is able to land a critical blow on Kanda. Allen manages to escape with Kanda and Toma to a safe spot where they coincidentally find the Ghost of Mater, Guzol, and his young companion, Lala. Overhearing their conversation, Allen realizes that Lala is actually the doll containing the Innocence while Guzol is merely a badly disfigured human. Unable to beat Allen in a fight, Lala pleads to him for mercy and tells him to let her be with Guzol before he dies. Allen, who sympathizes with both Lala and Guzol, decides to wait for Guzol to die before taking her heart. Kanda, however, demands that Allen take the Innocence inside Lala at once, arguing that if the Akuma were to take the Innocence because of Allen's foolishness, everything they sacrificed thus far would be for nothing. Allen proudly declares that if a sacrifice is necessary then he would gladly sacrifice himself to help Lala and Guzol fulfil their wish. For unlike Kanda, he cannot see the bigger picture and can only focus on that is in front of him.

The two continue to argue until the Level 2 Akuma arrives, taking Lala's heart, the Innocence, and gravely wounding Guzol. With Guzol and Lala's wish disappearing right before Allen's eyes, he becomes so enraged that his anti-Akuma arm transforms into two alternate forms. One in the shape of a cannon and the other a light saber sword. With his knew anti-Akuma weapons, Allen is able to gain the upper hand. But just when he is on the verge of winning, his Innocence rebounds as his body can't keep up with the morphed weapon. That's when Kanda decides to help despite their depute and they defeat the Level 2 Akuma together. Allen then tries to return the heart to Lala but she has already reverted back to being a mindless doll, who continues to sing to the already dead Guzol. As a tearful Allen keeps watch over the Innocence, Kanda reminds him that he is too naive, for exorcists are "destroyers" not "saviors." Allen sadly agrees but replies that he wants to be both. At that moment, Lala returns to her original self and thanks Allen for allowing her to fulfil her promise to Guzol before she broke. With tears in his eyes, Allen takes the Innocence from inside Lala and takes it back to HQ.

Reunion with the Millennium Earl (Anime Only)

As Allen and Toma head back to HQ, Allen runs into the son of one of the Order's scientists, Jan, who wants to kill Akuma. Allen and Toma try desperately to convince him to stop hunting Akuma but to no avail. Allen then tries to get Jan's father, Jake Russell to convince him, but he finds that Jake is more interested in work than his family. Allen then gets a bad feeling and he goes back to Jan just as Lenalee is about to throw a Welcome Party for Allen. He finds that the Earl had turned Jan's friend Leo into an Akuma and as the two talk, the Earl remembers Allen was someone he had made an Akuma for as he summons several Akuma to take him out.

(Anime) Not to be outdone, Allen and Lenalee attack the Earl and the several Akuma he summoned in a huge battle. Allen defeats them all but the Earl escapes and curses how he didn't kill Allen when he was younger. Afterwards, he goes back to HQ and gets attacked by Komui's newest robot, only to be saved by Lenalee. Later, Lenalee takes Allen to his Welcome Party.

Rewinding Town

Allen and Lenalee are dispatched to a town in Germany that has been mysteriously stuck on the day "October 9" (October 28 in the anime) for thirty days. While investigating, Allen manages to save Miranda Lotto from an Akuma. But while they discussed the situation, they are attacked by three more Level 2 Akuma and are under a lot of pressure. The Akuma, however, leave them under mysterious orders despite having the upper hand. After investigating Miranda's life more, Allen and Lenalee figure out that Miranda's clock holds Innocence and that Miranda is the clock's compatible apostle. After figuring out that the time loop was caused by Miranda's lack of employment, Allen and Lenalee desperately try to help Miranda find a job. But before they can, the three of them are captured by Road Kamelot and held captive for her entertainment.

Allen and road

Allen getting beaten by Road.

As Road pierces Allen's left eye, Road reveals to him that she is a human and is a part of The Noah Family with direct ties to the Millennium Earl. Allen, who cannot comprehend why a human would side with Akuma, lashes out at Road. But since Road is a human, Allen could not bring himself to harm her. Seeing that Allen refuses to fight, Road tries to attack Miranda but is blocked by Allen. Seeing the injuries Allen suffered in his attempt to protect her, Miranda is able to find the strength to activate her Innocence, reverting Allen and Lenalee's injuries back in time. With their injuries gone, Allen and Lenalee work together to defeat Road and her Akuma. But to Allen's horror, Road forcefully commands one of the Level 2 Akuma to self destruct to prevent Allen from saving its soul. Horrified, Allen dashes forward in an attempt to save the soul by killing the Akuma before it detonates. Allen however, is stopped by Lenalee because the explosion would have killed Allen as well. Enraged, Allen lashes out at her for stopping him, but in response she slaps him. Road gets bored and decides to leave by opening up a portal. Just before she can, Allen points his gun at her. Knowing that Allen won't harm her, Road simply mocks Allen for being too nice before continuing into her portal. In the end, is unable to kill Road and is left to feel the anguish on his own.

With the battle over, Allen and Lenalee turn to Miranda who is still using her powers. They both of the notice right away that Miranda is straining herself to maintain the power. They ask her to deactivate her Innocence but she refuses. She tells them that if she does, all their injuries will return and she does not want to see them in pain after everything they've done for her. Allen then tells her that it's alright for her to release her power because she has already done everything she can. He explains that if not for her, none of them would have survived, and thanks her for her efforts. With that, the distraught Miranda deactivates her Innocence and both Allen and Lenalee fall to the ground as their wounds return. Miranda quickly contacts the doctor in town to care for them.

Bookman & Lavi

While recovering after the events of the rewinding town, Allen meets Lavi and Bookman who are also fellow exorcists. Bookman, a master of acupuncture, examines Allen's cursed eye, which had been stabbed by Road. To Bookman's surprise, the eye seems to be healing on its own but not quite enough for Allen to use it. After discussing a little bit about the Noah family with Komui, Lavi and Allen decide to go outside. When Lavi brings up the subject of the Noah family again, Allen conveys that he became an exorcist to destroy Akuma and not to kill humans. With his resolve of being an exorcist beginning to waver, Allen decides to walk downtown on his own. But while in town, Allen can't help but be suspicious of everyone around him since he is no longer able to use his cursed eye. Suddenly, an Akuma emerges from the crowd and attacks him, but he is saved just in time by Lavi.

Lavi then reminds Allen of the reason they wear their exorcist coats. Unlike Allen, Lavi and the rest of the exorcists do not have the ability to tell Akuma apart from humans. The only means they have of fighting the Akuma is to draw them out by wearing the Vatican uniform. Contemplating how hard it must be to live life suspecting everyone, and realizing that every exorcist but him has to live that life, Allen regains his resolve of being an exorcist and reminds himself of his promise to Mana - that he will continue to walk his path no matter how hard it is.

The Fall of General Yeegar (Manga Only)

After returning from the town, Allen and Lavi are notified by Komui of General Yeegar's death. The general was found in Belgium nailed to a cross backward, with the words "God Hunt" carved into his back. Before dying, General Yeegar sang a same song over and over again: "The Millennium Earl is searching, searching for the precious heart. This time it wasn't me. Who will it be next?" Komui then explained to Allen that the Heart is a core piece of Innocence that serves as the power source for all remaining 108 pieces. Thus, if it is destroyed, all the Innocence will also be destroyed and humanity will lose all hope of defeating the Earl. Komui and Bookman conclude that the Millennium might be attacking the Generals first in the belief that the Heart's immense power would result in a powerful exorcist. As the Generals are usually travelling the world in search of new Exorcists, all unranked exorcists are divided into search parties and assigned the mission to find and safely escort them back to the Headquarters. Much to Allen's horror, Allen, Lenalee, Lavi, and Bookman are assigned to find General Cross.

The following events are Non-Canon and therefore not considered part of the Canon story.

The Leaf of Revival Arc (Anime Only)

When a village begins experiencing abnormal, extreme weather conditions, the Order suspects that Innocence might be the cause. Allen, Kanda, and Lavi are assigned to find and retrieve it. On their way there, they find an old man and young girl unconscious in a snowstorm and save them by taking them to a cabin. Kanda decides to continue on by himself, leaving Lavi and Allen behind.

The next day, Allen and Lavi leave and search again for the piece of Innocence. They learn that the man Frey, and his daughter Elda, who had followed the exorcists, are travelling to obtain the "Leaf of Revival" and use it to bring back Frey's deceased son, as it is rumored that the leaves of the tree can bring a person back from the dead. At the same time, Skinn Bolic and Lero, along with three Akuma, decide to look for the Innocence fragment as well. The two exorcists begin to engage in a battle with the Akuma, with the Noah just watching from the sidelines.

Kanda arrives just in time to help finish off the Akuma, however, Allen collapses due to his injuries. Later, after Kanda and Lavi retrieve the Innocence from the Leaf of Revival, they are attacked by level 2 Akuma, however Allen arrives just in time to help. Working together, the three exorcists defeat the Akuma. Before departing, Allen warns Elda about the Millennium Earl, though Frey tells him he does not need to worry.

Millennium Swordsman Arc (Anime Only)

Together with Lenalee, Allen is sent to look for Kanda, who was sent on a mission to retrieve Innocence but has not contacted headquarters for a week. Before getting inside the train, Lenalee argues with Allen, telling him that she hates his cursed eye.

As they arrive at their destination, they notice the town is filled with bounty hunters as Claudia, daughter of Mister Sardini, a local rich man, has been kidnapped by a man named Vittorio. After sneaking into Sardini's house, Allen has a conversation with Sardini, who reveals Claudia is engaged to Viscount Paletti. He also reveals that Claudia told him about a man who appeared to her during the night.

Allen and Lenalee head to the colosseum, where Akuma attack the bounty hunters. Vittorio appears and defeats many of the Akuma. But it is not long before Kanda also appears and starts fighting against Vittorio, only to get hit on his right side. Allen attacks Vittorio in order to stop him from killing Kanda. Soon, Claudia appears and orders Vittorio to stop fighting him and tells Allen to let her father know she doesn't intend to return home. Kanda is taken to the nearby house of an old lady, who tells Allen and the others about the story of Princess Sandra and Vittorio, that happened a thousand years ago. Sandra wanted to marry the strongest man in the world, so every man who wanted to marry her had to defeat Vittorio. However, Vittorio always won, and Sandra eventually fell ill and died. Yet, Vittorio kept fighting even after that. Kanda wakes up, hoping to complete his mission of defeating Vittorio before the Akuma get the Innocence. But Allen tells him to stay put and trust him, Lenalee and Vittorio to protect the Innocence.

Allen returns to the colosseum where Vittorio still keeps fighting Akuma. Vittorio challenges him to fight, but Allen tries to convince him that Sandra is dead and that his fight is long over. However, Vittorio denies this and attacks Allen.

When Vittorio is about to finish off Allen, Kanda arrives and stops Vittorio. He is struck again by Vittorio's giant sword, this time on his left shoulder. Kanda, however, uses this as an opportunity to cut off Vittorio's arm, so that he would let go of his sword which contains the Innocence. Allen goes to help Kanda as they witness Vittorio dying in Claudia's arms.

The Vampire of the Old Castle

After being assigned the task of tracking down the missing General Cross, Allen begins to have terrible nightmares of the difficult 'training' he endured under Cross's tutelage. He also notices that Lenalee has been ignoring him. When the train made a brief stop at a village in Romania, Allen followed Lenalee off the train then apologized for lashing out at her during their fight against Road. Lenalee tearfully berates Allen for his self-sacrificing tendency, reminding him that he doesn't need to bear the burden of the fight alone anymore, because he now has friends to help him. Lenalee then stormed away, apparently still miffed but having forgiven Allen. A bewildered Allen then made to rush back on the departing train, but he is suddenly grabbed by a nearby food vendor, who is later revealed to be the village's chief, and dragged away by the villagers then tied up.

Lenalee and Bookman sent Lavi to look for Allen when they realized he is not on the train, but he ends up being captured by the villagers as well. The villagers then explain to the trussed-up Allen and Lavi that their village's inhabitants are constantly threatened by a vampire by the name of Baron Arystar Krory III. Krory initially bolted himself up in his castle, which is filled with man-eating monster plants, and the villagers never strayed there for fear of their lives. Shortly before Krory started attacking the villagers, a traveler who wore an exorcist uniform went to visit Krory and came back unscathed. He told the village chief to seek the help of those who bear the Rose Cross insignia if there was ever a problem with the Baron. The traveler's prediction became true when Krory thereafter started his bloody rampage. The traveler is then revealed to be none other than General Cross himself. Though highly skeptical of the vampire story, as a significant clue to Cross's whereabouts, Allen and Lavi stayed behind to deal with the matter as Lenalee and Bookman go on ahead to wait at the next town. Lenalee, a believer in vampires, warns the two boys not to be bitten lest they turn into vampires themselves.

Krory bites allen

Krory biting Allen.

Allen and Lavi then entered Krory's eerie castle, accompanied by a hoard of villagers with torches and pitchforks, still denying the existence of vampires. Out of nowhere, Baron Krory rushes towards the villagers with incredible speed, snatching one, Franz, by the neck and began sucking his blood. Allen and Lavi quickly activated their Innocence and engaged Krory in battle. The fight culminates with Krory biting Allen's transformed left arm before fleeing with Franz's body, bemoaning that Allen's blood is "bitter". Lavi then teases Allen, joking that Lenalee will never speak to him again now that he's been bitten by a vampire.

After the villagers retreated in fear of Allen's transformation, Allen and Lavi enter the castle to rescue Franz. But instead of running into Krory, they run into Krory's giant man-eating flowers and his attractive assistant Eliade., who is on the way to bury Franz. Upon seeing their uniform, Eliade fed Franz to the flowers which then develop pentacle rashes before exploding violently, blowing Allen and Lavi outside to a small graveyard in the castle grounds, where Eliade usually buried Krory's victims. Upon closer inspection, they discover that Krory is not killing innocent people but actually Akumas in disguise, leading the pair to suspect that Krory might be an Innocence accommodator.

Meanwhile, Krory visits his late grandfather's portrait and laments his uncontrollable descent into monstrosity. Arystar Krory the First was an eccentric man, and the carnivorous flowers are actually his precious collection. He prevents Krory the third from leaving the castle, persuading him he is best off looking after his plants for all his life. Upon his death, he tasked Krory with taking care of the flowers, binding him to the castle forever, and Krory ponders whether his becoming a vampire is his grandfather's punishment for his curiosity to see the outside world, and bemoans that he is now reduced to nothing more than one of his collections, with no prove of his existence upon the world.

Krory was then alerted by Eliade of the flower's destruction, and went to attack Allen and Lavi after reluctantly drinking her blood to gain power. The two boys were overwhelmed by Krory's inhuman speed and strength and Allen was blown away into the castle, leaving Lavi to fight him alone and persuade him to become their ally.

Allen's left eye came back

Allen gets lost in the castle's secret passageways and was attacked by Eliade. Allen refuses to retaliate, telling Eliade that he has no reason to fight her, as they had not come to exterminate Krory but to recruit him as an ally, which Eliade derisively laughs at as she rained blow upon blow onto him. Allen then felt a strange dizziness and fell unconscious. Eliade prepares to finish him with an axe, but fails when his Innocence arm automatically moves to protect him.

Allen awoke in his subconscious to a faint illusion of Mana, and told him that he had decided to keep walking on the path of an Exorcist, alongside his friends, even without his left eye. Mana then faded away, telling Allen to "delve deeper into the world of black and white". Allen regains consciousness and realized that his left eye is functional once more. He discovers Eliade is an Akuma, re-igniting his will to fight. Eliade, who despises her grotesque Akuma form, reluctantly transforms and attacks Allen with full strength. The brawl sent both of them falling down to the main hall just as Lavi sent Krory smashing in as well.

Lavi reunites with Allen, and both him and Krory are shocked at the eerie sight of a human soul protruding from Eliade's body. Allen then learns that his curse has evolved and his eye is now able to project the vision to nearby people as well. Lavi reveals to Krory that Eliade is an Akuma, causing Eliade to transform and attack Krory, as she could not allow him to become an exorcist. Allen and Lavi made to help Krory out, but Krory's carnivorous flowers erupted from the ground and attacked them, separating them from the pair. As Lavi is about to be eaten, Allen recalls that the flowers are the same kind as Rozanne, a potted plant that Cross had him take care of with his life back when he was training. He tells Lavi the flowers will spare those who bear good intentions towards them, and the two proceeded to shower the flowers with confessions of love.

When questioned by Krory as to why she had not killed him long ago, Eliade reveals that she is simply using him to achieve something she had wanted to do. After berating Krory a coward for using his grandfather's will as an excuse to stay safe from the outside world, Eliade bombarded Krory with a hail of moisture-absorbing bubbles, leaving Krory's dried-up corpse to fall to the ground. Thinking she had killed him, Eliade converts back to human form and sadly watches his wretched remains. Krory's seemingly lifeless form then sprang up and bit her, sucking her blood to rejuvenate his body. In her last moments, Eliade confessed that she had simply wanted to experience love with Krory, as he is the only man she could not kill (as he bears Innocence), before dissipating into dust.

Having pacified the flowers, Allen and Lavi then approached Krory, who laments that he no longer has anything to live for now that Eliade is gone, and that he is a monster who killed someone he loves with his own hands. His words resounded with Allen, who had suffered a similar ordeal, and he reminded Krory that he must live on and keep destroying Akuma, so he will have a reason for destroying Eliade, stating that people can continue living for their 'reason'. In a reflection of his master, Allen also concludes that Krory, like him, is marked out to live as an apostle of God. Once Krory had calmed down, Allen and Lavi questioned him about Cross, and learned that Cross had visited Krory upon hearing news of his grandfather's death to return Rozanne, which he has been looking after for. After Cross borrowed a large sum of money and left for the far East, Rozanne bit Krory and then withers as Krory's teeth fell out, to be replaced with fangs. From that point on, Krory hungers for Akuma blood and starts attacking the villagers. Krory concludes that the plant must have been the 'Innocence' Allen and Lavi explained to him about. Spurred by Allen's words, Krory decides to become an exorcist and continue destroying Akuma, so Eliade's death would not be in vain. Before his departure, Krory set fire to the castle that had kept him caged for so long, signaling the end of his old life as his grandfather's collection and the beginning of his new life as an exorcist.

First Encounter With Tyki Mikk

Komui directs Allen and Lavi to simply take Krory along with their group instead of bringing him back to the Order, and the three boarded the train to meet up with Lenalee and Bookman. Allen also tested out the new abilities of his cursed eye; it can now detect any Akuma within a 300 meter radius, even from behind walls, and once concentrated, the eye can reveal the souls of Akuma to other people, and Allen realizes with dismay that his eye is starting to evolve just like an Akuma would.

Krory is deeply depressed about the villagers driving him away, refusing to believe Allen and Lavi's explanation, and went for a tour of the train under Lavi's advice. Allen and Lavi then went looking for him after he was gone for three hours straight, and found Krory wearing nothing but his underpants, having lost everything he had playing poker against three strangers, who had a boy named Eeez accompanying them. Realizing the men had scammed Krory, who knows nothing of the outside world from being isolated for so long, Allen challenges them in order to get Krory's stuff back. The normally unlucky Allen not only manages to get Krory's stuff back but strips the three men down to their underpants as well. Allen reveals to a bewildered Lavi that he was cheating. In what would be the first glimpse of his alter ego, "Black Allen", he proudly explains with an eerie laugh that in order to pay Cross's unpayable debts, he perfected the art of cheating "with (his) life on the line" and has never lost at cards since.

When the three men dismounted the train, Allen kindly returns the their clothes and belongings to them. To thank Allen, Eeez made to give the silver button he wears from his neck on a thong to Allen. The group's leader, a scruffy man in thick glasses, swiftly interrupts Eeez and gives Allen his deck of cards instead. After the train departed and the four prepares to leave for their next job, the bespectacled man receives a phone call and excuses himself, saying he has the usual "secret part-time job". As the remaining men leaves the station, the silver button that Eeez hangs from his neck flips over as he walks, revealing the name Kevin Yeegar embossed on the back, implying that the bespectacled man is behind his murder.

The bespectacled man then meets up with the Millennium Earl and transforms back into a Noah, Lord Tyki Mikk, then followed him back to their residence.

The Fall of General Yeegar (Anime Only)

Komui sends Allen to deliver a package to General Yeegar, however Allen does not know it is because the general wants to meet him. When he arrives he is greeted by a finder, who tells him how wonderful a person the general is, which surprises Allen because he thought that all the generals were cruel (because of Cross Marian). When a level 2 Akuma suddenly attacks a village, Allen rushes in to help, and there he meets General Yeegar. The general later invites him to lunch.

After he gives General Yeegar the golem he was tasked to deliver, Allen leaves. But soon after his departure, Road and Tyki attack the general and destroy all the Innocence he had with him. This was because they are searching for the Heart. When Allen hears the news of the general being attacked he rushes back to help. However, When they find the general they hear him singing a song with a message in it, telling them that the Earl is searching for the Heart.

Order in Crisis Arc

Not long after the Cross Unit departed Romania with Krory in tow, the Order received an unprecedented attack from the Earl. Waves of Akuma succeeded in obliterating over a hundred Finders in Barcelona, while members of the Noah family appeared at various locations around the world, picking out and murdering six exorcists from the teams searching for Generals Tiedoll, Cloud and Sokalo. One exorcist, Suman Dark from Sokalo Unit, also goes missing. The Cross Unit only learned of the massacre when Lenalee talked to Komui on the phone, and, though thoroughly shaken, they continue their journey to find General Cross.

When they meet up with him they find out that there are two Lenalees. As a result, the exorcists are separated, Allen and Krory, Lavi and Lenalee. When Allen and Krory get separated, Lulu Bell's attacks mostly focus on them. Some time later, the exorcists eventually reunite.

Suman Dark's Fallen Arc

Now that Allen's evolved cursed eye has completely healed, it has become a lot easier for him to spot Akuma, which makes it easier to fight them as well. Bookman and the rest of the crew, however, began to worry about Allen as he's been fighting twice as much as all of them combined ever since he got his new eye. Lenalee also noticed that his left arm is also "flaking" and jittery with fatigue.

After arriving in China and asking around about Cross, the exorcists are led to a brothel where they meet Cross's recent lover, Anita, who is actually a Supporter of the Black Order. The team are informed by Anita that Cross left for Japan eight days ago. But the ship that Cross was on was found in pieces in the middle of the ocean, indicating that he might have been killed. Allen, who knows Cross best, proclaims that Cross could not possibly die so easily. Seeing his determination, Anita regains hope of Cross's survival and directs her men to prepare a ship for the exorcists to set sail towards Japan.

While sailing, Allen soon discovers a huge wave of Akuma coming towards the ship. The exorcists ready themselves for battle, but they are surprised to see the Akuma simply fly over them without a fight. Upon noticing Allen, however, an Akuma carried him away by his left arm, prompting Lenalee to chase after him. The two then encounter the Akuma wave's true target; a gigantic white floating torso which expels enormous waves of light energy to destroy everything in its path, with a human half-embedded in its chest cavity.

A traumatized Lenalee recognized the monstrous form as a Fallen One, and the human victim as Suman Dark, a parasitic-type exorcist who had gone missing in action. She explains to Allen that she had once witnessed now-forbidden experiments in the Order, when the Order attempted to syncronize Innocence with blood relatives of deceased exorcists, believing this would increase the chance of synchronization. However, the synchronization would fail, and the Innocence will take over the human's body, forcing him to expel enormous power to drain his life energy and kill him, so it can re-synchronize with a new human. Since Suman is an exorcist fully compatible with his Innocence, Lenalee could not understand how he could Fall.

Resolving to save Suman, Allen and Lenalee flew up to the Fallen One and attempted to speak to an unresponsive Suman. A little girl then emerges from the Fallen's chest cavity and Allen pulls her out, only to be sucked in himself. As the Akumas continue to bombard Suman with bullets, Lenalee had no choice but to reluctantly leave Allen and take the girl, who is not breathing, to a hospital.

Over to Allen, Suman's memories begin to flow into Allen's mind, revealing to him that Suman's Sokalo Unit is attacked by the Noah Tyki Mikk. Seeing his friends overpowered and killed off one by one, Suman was overcome by terror and betrayed the Black Order to stay alive in hopes of returning to see his family. He made a deal with Tyki Mikk and called the Headquarters for locations of all the exorcists searching for the Generals, leading to the massacre in Barcelona and the murder of the exorcists.

Allen learns that after his daughter Jamie fell ill to an incurable disease, Suman reluctantly became an Exorcist to afford for her care. As per Order policy, this means severing all contact with his family and leaving behind the very daughter he tried to save.

However, by giving up fighting and making a deal with the enemy, Suman betrayed his own Innocence's will, causing his syncronization rate to fall below zero and resulting in him becoming a Fallen One. Desperate, Allen tries to convince Suman to separate himself from his Innocence before he burns his life up destroying another village in his path. To Allen's dismay, Suman doesn't listen and spits him out. In a last-ditch attempt to stop Suman, Allen activates his Innocence to its maximum invocation, which is far beyond his synchronization rate of 83%. With this, he manages to stop Suman's assault. However, his Innocence soon rebounded, leaving Allen screaming in agony as Suman again resumes his course toward the village.

A despairing Allen was spurred back into action by Timcanpy, and he activates his failing Innocence once again to stop Suman. Allen reminds Suman of his daughter and his desire to live and return home, which is strong enough to lead him to betray hundreds of his comrades, finally making Suman realise he wants to be saved. The two then work together to severe Suman's body from the Innocence in his arm and succeeded, both falling into a thick bamboo forest.

Allen's euphoria is short-lived, however, when he discovers that despite Suman's body being alive, his mind is dead; the Innocence having taken his mind as its last revenge after failing to kill him. Clutching Suman's spiteful Innocence in his hand, a tearful Allen moves to take Suman back home, still hoping to save Suman as his body is still alive. At that moment, Tyki Mikk reveals himself. Suman's body then explodes into a gruesome mass of blood and gore as Tyki calls out his carnivorous butterfly golems, Tease, from inside him. After agreeing to let him live, Tyki had planted a Tease within Suman's body so it could multiply as it feed on Suman's insides.

Allen dieing

Tyki "killing" Allen

His Innocence broken and his body greatly weakened from forced invocation, Allen is powerless to defend himself from Tyki. Tyki reveals that he is on a mission from the Earl to search and eliminate people who has ties with a "certain person" (later revealed to be General Cross), one of his targets being Allen himself. After confirming Allen's identity, Tyki severed Allen's left arm and shattered his Innocence into dust to see if it would destroy Suman's Innocence as well, which would mean it is the Heart. Fortunately, Suman's Innocence remain intact. As his last attempt at resistance, Allen orders Timcanpy to flee with Suman's Innocence to Lenalee and Lavi before Tyki could destroy it, too. After ordering the Akuma wave to chase Timcanpy, Tyki inserts a Tease into Allen's body, telling it to eat a hole in his heart just enough for him to die from internal bleeding, as he believed "brave, noble" people like Allen should die a slow, agonizing death. After scattering the deck of cards he gifted Allen over his dying form, he left Allen for dead.

Edo and Asian Branch Arc

Inside his inner consciousness, Allen finds himself in a mysterious place surrounded by an endless field of ruins. From a distance, he can hear the cries of Lenalee. Hearing her call, he is determined to reach her. However, he is stopped by a mysterious shadow and awakens to find himself on an unfamiliar bed. Allen then hears someone's voice explaining that he survived Tyki's attack because his Innocence closed the wound in his heart. Though despite having survived such a dire predicament, Allen is in no mood to celebrate. All he can think about is Suman who he failed to save. Lost in his thoughts, Allen begins to wander aimlessly on his own towards wherever his body leads him.

Upon reaching the exiting gate, Allen is confronted by Bak who reveals himself as the leader of the Black Order's Asian Branch. Bak then tells him that without his Innocence, Allen would no longer have to live the life of an exorcist and no one would blame him if he choose to do so. Allen, however, refuses to give up his life as an exorcist because of his vows to his friends and to Mana. Seeing Allen's resolve, Bak reveals to him that his Innocence wasn't destroyed but reduced into particles and with training, Allen may be able to restore it.

Allen is Prepared

Allen prepared to fight Thread

Upon revealing that Allen's Innocence can be restored, Bak is attacked by For, Allen's savior and the Guardian Deity of Asian Branch. During this time, Allen is also introduced to others who work in the Asian branch, such as Assistant Branch Leader Sammo Han WonRikei, Shifu, and Lō Fwa. Afterwards, Bak leads Allen to the room his Innocence is stored in. But having been reduced into particles by Tyki, Allen's Innocence is in no shape to be invoked. Thus, Allen has to resort to training with For to restore it. But before the training starts, Allen accidentally discovers that Bak is a stalker of Lenalee with numerous pictures of her up his sleeves.

With a solution in front of them, Allen and For begin to engage in real battle training in an attempt to restore Allen's Innocence. Allen, however, is still unable to reactivate it even after days of training. Realizing that he's wasting precious time, which he could be using to catch up with Team Cross, Allen becomes frustrated and tries to push himself even harder. Seeing how distressed he is, For disguises herself as Lō Fwa to talk with him, reminding him that he fights not for the sake of fighting, but for something precious to him.

After encouraging Allen, a level 3 Akuma suddenly attacks the Asia Branch. Allen tries to fight back, but without his Innocence Allen is powerless to do anything. As a last resort, Bak decides to use For as bait so that Allen and the rest of the Asian Branch can escape. Refusing to leave For to die at the hands of the Akuma, Allen tries to persuade Bak to open the door so he can assist her. Bak, however, refuses to let up since Allen can't fight without his Innocence. This is when Allen proclaims he is an anti-Akuma weapon, accepting his fate as an exorcist and his destiny that ultimately ties to the Akuma. He implores Bak to open the door so he can once again be where he belongs—on the battlefield fighting against Akuma.

Crown Clown

Crown Clown activated for the first time

Seeing Allen's resolve, Bak has no choice but to open the door. With that, Allen quickly enters the battle in an attempt to save For. But upon seeing the Akuma and the soul trapped inside, Allen is reminded of the reason he chose to be an exorcist in the first place. He became an exorcist so that he could save the captured souls of Akuma. Having forgotten that, he now realizes why he couldn't invoke his Innocence. With the level 3 Akuma running amok, Bak tries to do what he can alongside Allen. All their efforts, however, are useless against a level 3 Akuma.

Just when For and Bak are about to be killed by the Akuma, Allen is able to invoke his Innocence to the form of "Crown Clown" by accepting who he is; his left hand is for the Akuma he promised to save and his right hand is for the friends he swore to stand together with. And with his new anti-Akuma weapon, Allen is able to defeat the Akuma, saving For and Bak's lives. Before destroying it, Allen learns from the Akuma of the situation in Edo and that Allen will be able to travel there by using Noah's Ark, the same device that let the Akuma into the Asian Branch. When Allen asks why the Akuma would tell him all this, the Akuma replies that he doesn't know; it simply felt right to tell him everything.

Noah's Ark Arc

After healing up a bit, Allen uses the Noah's Ark to reach Edo just in time to save Lenalee from the Earl. With his new Anti-Akuma weapon, Allen fights the Earl but it ends in a draw and the Earl retreats. However, Kanda charges toward Allen, thinking he is an Akuma summoned by Tyki, however Allen stops him from attacking at the last second. Kanda simply gets mad in response and they begin their usual routine of trading insults with each other.

Now that Allen has caught up with the others, his emotional reunion with Lenalee is interrupted as Lero teleports Lenalee away. Allen, Lavi, Krory, Chaozii, and Kanda, are teleported together with her into the Noah's Ark when they try to pull her back. As they investigate their surroundings, Tyki appears and gives them a key to Road's dimensional door so they can escape the collapsing Ark. When the group uses the key to open one of the doors in the area, they encounter Skinn Bolic and Kanda forces Allen to lead the others ahead while he stays behind to deal with Skinn.

After opening the next door, Allen finds Jasdevi in their split form. Allen, Lavi and Krory fight against Jasdevi, but the twins reveal Cross left them with a debt of 100 guineas. The twins want Allen to pay the bill, but Allen maintains what they owe is nothing compared to what he has had to pay on Cross's behalf over the years.

Angered, the twins steal the key and force Allen's team to search for it amongst a room full of duplicate keys, which are actually just an illusion. Allen gives Lavi time to find the real key as he and Krory fight off Jasdevi. Allen becomes angry as Jasdevi attacks Lenalee and Chaozii, and thanks to Krory's ability to sense Noahs, they are able to restrain the twins until Lavi finds the key. With this, the twins merge into a single body, after being called kids. Krory forces Allen to lead the others out of the Ark so he may deal with Jasdevi alone.

As Allen helps Lenalee up the stairs, the exorcists discuss what they will do after the battle is over. Allen tells the group he will eat everything that Jeryy can cook and that he will never give up hope. With this, Allen's team runs into Road and Tyki at the top of the tower and Road surprises all of them by kissing Allen on the lips. Tyki asks them to sit down for a meal but Allen refuses to eat without time to enjoy it. Tyki then tells them to look outside and they see that everything except for the tower has been destroyed. He then asks them if they are afraid. A short time later, a fight ensues between Allen and Tyki when Tyki sends the Teez to kill Lenalee.

Allen and Tyki's battle reaches a point where Allen's new arm breaks. But he reveals to Tyki that it is the Innocence that provides the power but it is the exorcist's heart that makes him deadly and with that his Crown Clown heals itself. In retaliation, Tyki repels the air to create a vacuum to kill Allen. Allen attempts to break free from the vacuum by synchronizing with his Innocence. As Tyki is about to pull out his heart, Allen decides to use his power to save humans as well as the Noah, and is able to reach critical point, which is achieved by exceeding 100% syncronization rate (which is the requirement to become a general). This results in him being able to use Crown Clown's Sword of Exorcism. Allen unsheathes his new Sword of Exorcism and with it, he is able to exorcise the Noah from Tyki.

Road is enraged when Allen exorcises the "Noah" inside of Tyki and gets revenge by using Lavi to attack him. Lavi is eventually able to overcome Road and manages to defeat her. As they escape, Allen tries to save Lero and Tyki. However, after they realize that Allen's attempt at exorcising the Noah failed, Tyki becomes a fully awakened Noah and turns into a demonic knight that easily overpowers both Allen and Lavi, until General Cross arrives to rescue them.

Allen playing the piano

Later, Cross orders Allen to control the Ark, and sends him and Timcanpy into the secret room of The 14th Noah, where Allen faces a dark apparition in the mirror who calls Timcanpy "My Timcanpy". Timcanpy projects a mysterious set of music scores, and Allen begins to play on the white piano, at the same time thinking of his wish (to give back his friends), controlling and restoring the Ark. With the Ark, they take the Akuma Egg to the Black Order Headquarters.

Invasion of the Black Order Arc

Since Allen has the powers of the Musician, which allow him to control the Ark, he is able to save his friends. Moreover, this also allows him to stop the Akuma egg from being downloaded, meaning the Earl will be unable to make more Akuma.

Later, Allen wonders about how the symbols he and Mana created years ago were the song to control the Ark. He tries to confront his master about it, but he never gets the chance to. After Allen and his friends return to Headquarters, he is put under supervision by Malcolm C. Lvellie, who wants to put Allen on trial for treason. In order to ensure Allen's loyalties, Lvellie has his subordinate, Howard Link put Allen under 24-hour supervision. This causes many members of the Order to suspect Allen while close friends, including Komui, Lenalee, Lavi, Bak, Reever, and Johnny, believe that Allen would never betray them.

Allen arrives

Allen and Bookman arrive in Lab 5 to fight the Akuma

The Noah, Lulu Bell, brings her army of Akuma and Skulls to attack the headquarters' Lab 5, where the Akuma Egg is being studied. The army injures the entire science department, intending to turn the smart ones into Skulls. Allen and Bookman arrive through the Ark, and struggle against the endless army of level 3 Akuma.

By this time, Lulu Bell has already secured the Akuma Egg and opens a gate to the Millennium Earl. Allen returns just in time, jumping into the fray to rescue Miranda, who had been on the Egg, as the Generals begin their attack. The Egg is destroyed by the Exorcists' combined efforts when Lulu Bell attempts to take back the Egg again. The victory is short-lived, however, as a level 4 Akuma appears and easily pummels Allen, going on to lay waste to a portion of headquarters. When Allen sees the level 4's soul he starts to vomit, believing it to be too grotesque to look at. Allen, along with Lenalee, with her new form of Dark Boots, overpower the Akuma. Eventually, the generals join in and pour their full power into their attacks, finally defeating the Level 4.

After the battle Allen is unable to move, and before he is crushed by falling debris, Howard Link saves him and takes him to the medical ward.

Destruction of the Black Order Arc

Allen and friends are helping move the science team's storage when a massive storm hits the Black Order's Head Quarters, causing a blackout. Unknown to them, someone or something has infected Krory with Komuivitan D, a mysterious substance created by Komui to combat overworking the science team. The Komuivitan was deemed dangerous, as it seems to turn the person who drinks it zombie-like, infecting others with Komuivitan D via biting. Soon enough, most of Head Quarters is infected with Komuivitan D, save for Link, Lavi, Kanda, Allen, Johnny, Lenalee, Bookman, Marie, Reever, some others of the science team, and Komui.

Eventually, however, in an effort to try and create a vaccine from the original source of the entire infection, everyone but Johnny, Allen, and Komui is infected by the oncoming horde. Johnny and Allen are infected as well, but not without finding out that Krory is the source of the infection. A ghost in the Head Quarters is to blame for giving Krory Komuivitan. Komlin EX is creating a successful vaccine from Krory's blood, but unfortunately, Komlin is destroyed when Krory gets infected by Allen and Lavi after being so overjoyed at seeing them that he doesn't realize that they are affected by Komuivitan D. Komui is infected as well, but luckily, the next day, Bak comes to visit and cures Head Quarters of the Komuivitan D infection after finding a vaccine.

Disappearance of Cross Marian Arc

They move to the new headquarters and Allen is charged with putting ark gates to facilitate the transporting. After he finishes he is thanked by Lvellie who tells him to follow him.

Cross arranges a meeting with Allen and reveals to him that he is to become the 14th Noah. Allen asks what the relationship was between Mana and the 14th. Cross replies that they were brothers. Cross apparently was looking after Mana for the 14th. He tells Allen that at the right moment he would someday lose his very soul to the 14th who would be reborn in his body and also that he was doomed to kill the "ningen" or "human(s)" he loved when that happened. Allen was probably very worried, but has since recovered a cheerful front and is trying to keep his mind on his duties.

While at the Black Order's new HQ, Cross Marian is attacked and killed. His killer is later revealed to be the unnamed Cardinal, who reveals himself to be Apocryphos, which shows a cutscene of his killer holding Judgement to Cross's head before it was fired. This cutscene was apparently Cross's killer's memories that were accidentally shown to Allen while being attacked. Cross's guards fell asleep during their watch, which is how they don't realize that an intruder has entered Cross's room until it's too late.

Witnessing Cross's bloodied body, one of the guards run off to get Inspector Lvellie. The other guards bursts into the room, only to find that Cross's body has fallen through the window, leaving his shattered mask behind on the seat. Cross is never found after this, and during the investigation of his room, Timcanpy seems to sense his master's demise and flies to his room. It is then that Allen discovers his master's tragic death.

A reunion is hold between the exorcists and Allen demands to be killed if he ever becomes the fourteenth. But he assures his friends that this won't happen.

Months later, Allen is sent on a mission with Kanda and Miranda. They go to a cemetery to retrieve an innocence kept by the ghost of chess champion Mister Martin. Helped by his sister, they all face the former champion at chess but are defeated. Allen is charged with defending the area while Link is playing. He saves Miranda from a level 3 akuma. Link wins the game and they return to the headquarters with the innocence ring. To pass they have to give a code to Father Frederico.

Later, Timcanpy returns to the room where Cross has disappeared. Allen follows him and finds Lvellie sipping tea. Lvellie proposes him some cake but Allen ignores him and tells Tim that they're leaving. Lvellie asks Allen if he is the one who killed Cross. Upset, Allen replies that it may be Lvellie who did it and slams the door.

D.Gray-man Reverse:The Maiden's Rhapsody

Phantom Thief G Arc

He is sent on a mission with Kanda and Marie to investigate a strange rash of theft. They first visit the captured victims in the jail and leave to capture G. Later that night, G steals the crown and Kanda intercepts G but is revealed to be another victim. As G escapes, Allen ambushes him and reveals that it was part of their plan. However while Allen was distracted, G possesses Link. Link proves himself formidable to match Kanda. Kanda reveals that Link is a CROW of the Central Agency.

Allen stabs Link with his Sword of Exorcism and G is in shock. G begins to cry in a very unique way that Marie used to find the source. Marie has lead his team to a boy named Timothy whose Innocence can allow him to control other people's bodies. The building is suddenly dark and Allen realizes that his eye isn't reacting at all to the Akuma even though it is in front of him. The Level 4 tells him that he shouldn't underestimate the Earl and that they have finally caught up with him. Allen also attempts to summon the Ark but this too is disabled inside the barrier. He then engages in battle with a second Level 4 Akuma and three other Akuma who are attempting to take the boy.

Noah aura

Allen's Noah Aura

Although Kanda manages to injure the Level 4, Allen loses his sword when the Akuma grabs and throws it away. After running from the attacks, he calls Crown Clown back to him, making it fly straight through the Akuma and through himself, pinning them to the wall. As the Akuma comments on him skewering himself and Allen explains the effect of the Sword of Exorcism, but is suddenly wracked with pain as the Sword seems to be affecting himself as well. As the Akuma prepares to fire on him, the 14th Noah inside him surfaces. He touches the Akuma's cheek, causing it to stop, saying only "Good Morning". Sensing the 14th inside of Allen, the Level 4 starts to cry, and it is skewered by Kanda just as it was able to pronounce "Noah..." Allen, who seemed under the 14th's control, looks at Kanda with a hostile expression. Kanda then provokes Allen by calling him "Idiot Bean Sprout". Allen's conscience immediately surfaces and they slice the Level 4 to pieces.

Artificial Exorcists Arc

Nea awakens

Allen after waking from his dream

Upon his return to Headquarters, Allen has a dream in which he is impaled on the Sword of Exorcism and a voice tells him he is not without sin and that it is he who is in need of salvation. Mana appears in the dream and invites Allen to come with him - though he never calls Allen by name. He uses another name that Allen can't quite make out, symbolized by ***, three unknown characters. Allen asks Mana to call him by his name and then wakes up. His hair turns wavy, with slitted, hostile eyes. This startles Lenalee, who had fallen asleep on the bed next to that of Allen's. Allen seemed not himself -highly likely he was under the 14th control- until Lenalee calls his name. Before the two could start a conversation though, they are interrupted by Link who has been unable to perform his duties because of Lenalee's "immodest state". Allen tries to lock him out for a moment, while Lenalee asks him whether or not he is feeling alright. Link threatens to tell Komui that Allen is alone in a sealed room with Lenalee. Allen immediately relents and opens the door. Later, Lenalee is shown thinking that Allen looked like a different person when he woke up.

Allen vs Tyki

Allen arrives to save his comrades and attacks Tyki and the Earl

In Jordan, Allen and a few Third Exorcists begin fighting an army of Akuma. There, Allen sees what happens to Akuma souls when Third Exorcists absorb them, and his eye bleeds from it. After that, Tyki appears with some other Noah and began to attack, while taking shelter in a cave, Allen learns the fate of any Third Exorcist but Tyki reappears to battle them. Allen manages to defeat all the Akuma and disappears and reappears to where the Noahs are keeping the Order hostage. Allen comes from an ark gate beneath a black coffin ready to attack the Noahs but the Earl is waiting for him. As they meet, Allen and Tyki both manage to land on the Earl without seeing him. The Earl grabs Allen and tells him that he'll never go back to the Order, as he'll be leaving it by choice soon. As the Earl questions how he called him by saying "Good Morning" the Level 4 Akuma in the Timothy arc, Allen denies trying to contact the Earl. The 14th, however, appears, and makes a death threat, saying that he'll take over the Earl's place. During this, Allen goes through great pain, as if he were about to transform into the Noah.

The 14th took over Allen's body

The 14th took over Allen's body

After managing to recover, Allen informs the Noah, the Earl, and the 14th, saying, "I'm Allen, an Exorcist! And I'd die before becoming anything else." He also says, "Don't take your brotherly fights out on other people! It's a nuisance!!" to the Earl, and especially the '14th'. Wisely then hints at Alma's existence to Allen, and after Alma is brought out, he draws Allen and Road into Kanda's memories. He sees the younger Alma, who says "Raise your hand if you understand me." and does so, only to be stomped across. He realizes that Alma doesn't appear to notice him, and sees a hand rising from a circle of water. That hand then turns out to belong to a naked boy that gets pulled out by Alma. As he's finally pulled out Allen realizes that the child is Kanda.

Alma massacre

Allen watching Kanda and Alma's memories with Road

After that Allen watches Kanda's memories as he was involved in the "Second Exorcist Project". The Second Exorcists seem to be killed exorcists whose brains were transferred to artificial bodies. The scientists tried to transfer Innocence to those artificial bodies. Allen witnesses those painful memories and is almost consumed by Kanda's emotions, until Road explains to him that he's seeing Kanda's memories. In these memories Allen learns of the relationship between Alma and Kanda who were both part of the painful and cruel experiments of the Asian Branch, always fighting (and after that always regenerating and healing their wounds due to their modified bodies). Allen also witnesses Alma eavesdropping on the scientists who intended to kill Kanda, because he seemed to have dreams of his real memories as an exorcist, and then tried to save his only friend and almost got killed by the CROW in the process. In the end Kanda thinks Alma is dead and survived himself.

After watching Kanda strike Alma down and having endured Kanda's memories long enough, Allen blows his top and punches Kanda in the forehead with his Crown Clown for allowing Wisely to "spy on his memories" for so long and forgetting his quick temper. Road notes that it's cruel of Allen to strike someone in the head with Innocence but he's also too late. Johnny and Bak begin to call to Allen telling him to stop Alma Karma before he wakes up and turns into an Akuma. Allen stares shocked at the demonic cocoon containing Alma but before he can react, the Earl tells Alma to "kill them" and Alma's awakening causes a huge explosion that blows up the entire North American Branch.

Tokusa attacks Allen

Now Akuma-like monster, Tokusa attacks Allen

Allen survives, noticing Kanda is confronting Alma, but is shocked that Tokusa used his seals to protect him from most of the blast, despite his injuries. Allen begins to feel guilty that he couldn't save anyone at the time, a thought to which Tokusa knees him on the head, saying that being an Exorcist does not mean he can save everyone. Allen is then relieved that everyone is probably safe when Johnny contacts him. As Alma begins to turn into an Akuma, Allen witnesses Tokusa mutating. Allen attempts to help Tokusa, but is blown away into a wall. Then Allen's Crown Clown activates by itself and forces Allen to use Edge End on Tokusa. Allen begs for the Innocence stop threatening to kill himself with it if the Innocence didn't obey him, but Tokusa approaches Allen. Allen then watches Kanda fight Alma, and asks why Kanda is fighting so seriously to use Four Illusion Style. Tokusa then sneaks up behind him and attacks him, while claiming that he is not an enemy of Exorcists to stop himself, but is struggling. Then the Millennium Earl requests Allen to come along with the Noah Family as the Fourteenth if he wants the Earl to "put an end to this little show".[10]

Allen watches as Tokusa and Alma terrorize all of his comrades present. He tries to call to Tokusa, who no longer recognizes him as he's consumed by Alma's hatred. Tokusa then proceeds to break his leg. He's saved by Bak using "Sealed God" and Fō also comes to his aid, sealing him in a bubble with her. When she sees him looking conflicted, she asks him is he really thinking about taking the Earl's offer. He replies he understands Alma's hate from the memories shown to him by Wisely but doesn't see a way to save him. They're then attacked by Tyki who injures Fo. He then extends his hand to Allen, telling him not to irritate the Earl any further. Fō yells at Allen for being a fool trying to save everyone, telling him it's not that easy and he can't go deciding on his own.

Allen stabbed by Kanda

Allen stabbed by Kanda

Tyki casually blasts her but Allen saves her with his Sword of Exorcism, asking whether she thinks he can save him. He begins to fight Tyki but Fō tells him she'll take care of Tyki. Allen goes off to deal with Alma but his leg hinders him so Professor Zu heals him with his magical golem "Atuda" using his own life force. Allen then stops Kanda from attacking Alma with his "Fifth Illusion."

Allen blocks Alma from Kanda's "Fifth Illusion" attack telling Alma to get back more. Later Allen starts mocking Kanda because of his appearance, more later asking Kanda why he stabbed Alma. Kanda then uses "Fifth Illusion Ripping Flash Claw" on Allen and Alma. It is later said that his hair has turned light purple because he sublimated his soul too much to the "Fifth Illusions Form". Kanda using "Fifth Illusion Ripping Flash Claw" is shown to affect Allen badly. Later on, Allen and Alma are still fighting as are Fō and Tyki. Alma is later shown attacking Kanda with a strong attack but Allen blocks the attack with his Innocence, telling Alma "You should have seen, just like the Noah showed me... The reason why Kanda chose to live nine years ago.. You still won't forgive him?!" Allen is shown holding Alma up by his tail, Alma also starts crying saying "As long as Yu's still alive, I..."

It is shown that the Akuma Alma's regenerating ability has reached its limit, Allen is holding Alma from falling but when Kanda attacks Allen moves Alma out of the way not giving Alma to Kanda who wants to kill him. Kanda is later telling Allen that it's his fault Alma is an Akuma, also telling him "The one who destroyed this branch and made the Third Exorcists into monsters is all your fault, the fault of the man who belongs to the Order even though he's a Noah!" Allen's Innocence activates then he attacks Kanda, screaming Kanda's name. While Kanda screams "It's all your fault, you fucking Noah!" They continue fighting until Alma shoots light at Allen hurting him in his shoulder, crying while doing it.

But Allen still attacks Kanda asking Kanda "You think destroying Alma is going to end everything!" When Kanda stabs Allen right in his stomach with his Innocence, the Earl is shown being happy. Kanda finally regains himself with Allen asking Kanda "Look carefully at Alma's face. Why is he making that kind of face?" The area around where Kanda stabbed him starts to change into the color of a Noah's skin, eventually spreading throughout his whole body. Allen then pushes away from Kanda and falls to the ground showing that his whole body looks like a Noah's, Kanda calls him Bean Sprout as he falls down. Reever from the Black Order than says "His body looks like a Noah's..."

Allen Noah aura

14th's Noah Aura around Allen

After Kanda wounded Allen with his Innocence, The 14th started to awaken. Inside Allen's mind he is chained to a structure and confronted with the 14th. The 14th says that the Earl is going mad and that the Earl and Allen are both puppets. Allen mistakes the 14th for Tyki and then the 14th corrects him and introduces himself as Nea. After Timcanpy destroyed the barrier an image of Mana appeared which stops the take over. Allen's left eye activates and then he saw a woman's soul in Alma Karma's body. Angered by this, Alma's hatred reawakens and once more attempts to kill Kanda by activating his self-destruct. The detonation blows Allen back and creates a crater. Kanda is seen on the brink of death and crumbling to pieces.

Allen arrives back at Kanda's body just as Alma's body begins regenerating. Alma begins to crawl as he searches for Kanda's body, saying that he "wants to be by his side." Allen picks up Alma's body in an attempt to bring him to rest beside Kanda. As Allen is carrying him, the dark-matter once more takes over Alma's body in an attempt to consume Alma's soul. Kanda tells Allen to send both he and Alma to "the place where we had our first mission together", referring to Mater. Allen agrees and sends them both through an Ark Gate. Allen than declares to the rest of the people witnessing the event that he cannot allow the Noah nor the Church to get in his way any longer.

Meanwhile, the Third Exorcists are still whirling out of the control, and the Exorcists are forced to battle and kill them. Allen attempts to suppress Tokusa without killing him. As the Order members verbally apprehend Allen for letting Kanda and Alma escape, Allen refutes that they could save the Third Exorcists, and questions if the Order truly intends to destroy the Third Exorcist Project. The Earl states that the Third Exorcists that are still rampaging show the long grudge Alma had for the Organization. Rouvelier then barks an order to go find Alma and destroy his body to stop the rampage, but Allen persists, prompting Rouvelier to declare that Allen is no longer an Exorcist.

Allen imprisioned

Allen in Black Order prison

Allen continues his attempt to persuade Tokusa, telling him that he isn't Alma, and that only Alma's cells are causing him to rampage. Because it is Tokusa's body, he should be able to control. But Tokusa asks Allen why he bothers to even save him if Allen should just kill him. Allen then asks back why the Third Exorcists are giving up so easily, and coaxes Tokusa into suppressing Alma's rage. However, Link arrives carrying Tewaku, and restrains Allen with seals, mistaking Allen for trying to kill Tokusa. Tewaku transforms and tries to attack Allen, but Timcanpy appears as a huge monster and saves him in time. The Earl whisks away Tokusa and the others for his own uses, declaring that he will return for the 14th Noah. Allen is shown to be imprisoned along with Timcanpy.

Seed of Destruction Arc

Knowing he is held for treason but not yet put to death so he can be questioned, Allen becomes very paranoid and refuses to eat, fearing truth serum has been slipped into his food. He's purposely unresponsive to interrogations, and seems intent on retreating mentally. Because of his actions, priests from the Vatican have taken to drawn-out forms of torture, leaving the worst of his wounds, the stab through his stomach he received from Kanda, largely unattended to.

It is only when Howard Link makes him accept food sent by Jerry (which has a slur aimed at Rouvelier scrawled on top, thus proving no one has tampered with it) that Allen begins eating. Allen then apologizes to Link.

Link is rather annoyed that the first words out of Allen's mouth are an apology, but reveals his shared past with the Third Exorcists. Allen regrets not having become better friends with them, and wishes he had known more about the situation. He also thinks Kanda and Alma could've survived if he had had more knowledge, and realizes all he's doing is hating without knowing anything about the 14th. He then begins to think about the 14th, wondering if he knew more, if something would change.

Cardinal threat

The unknown Cardinal "healing" Allen

Somehow, these thoughts awaken Allen's inner Noah, and Allen begins to lose consciousness. As Allen comes close to passing out, a cardinal from Central enters his cell and claims he's going to 'heal' Allen. Link, though surprised that the cardinal is there, allows him to approach Allen, only to be shocked when the fingers of the cardinal's left hand unfurl into dangerous-looking feather-blades. The blades pierce into Allen's innocence and cause him great pain. Link tries to intervene, but the cardinal attacks him and erases Link's memory of the cardinal. Allen attempts to stop the cardinal and pierces his head by accident with his innocence, as his vision was blurred and he couldn't move well. The cardinal is unaffected by the attack and begins moving towards Allen. The cardinal continues what he was doing earlier, and Allen sees a vision of his Master, on the night that he went missing, and he was confronting the cardinal.

Tyki Mikk (sent by the Millennium Earl) intervenes and temporarily disables the cardinal by smashing the Cardinal's head into the floor. Road appears in her doll form and reverts back to her Noah form upon seeing Allen. She comforts him, since he is incredibly shaken by what he saw of his Master. It is then revealed that the cardinal is in fact an independent innocence known as Apocryphos, which exists solely to guard the Heart, and to do so is intent on absorbing Allen, as it is "what his (Allen's) Innocence wants". After a brief struggle between Apocyphos and Tyki, Allen attacks it claiming that the thought of merging with the person who killed Cross sickens him, and either blacks out and is taken by Tyki and Road, or willingly goes with them. Either way a message is broadcast across the Black Order that he has left with the Noah and his status as an Exorcist has been suspended.

Allen parting

Allen parts with Lenalee stating that the Order will always be his true home

After having a small argument with Tyki which ends in Tyki saying Allen has "two monsters" inside of him (his Noah memories, and his Innocence) and as a result "sows chaos and creates conflict" wherever he goes. However, before Tyki leaves, he tells Allen to show his monsters "who's boss." Road wakes up from an apparent coma-like state and says that the inspirational phrase Mana gave to Allen in the past, "Don't stop. Keep walking," was originally said by Nea to Mana. Road adds that Nea fought to protect Mana, then disappears. Absorbing all of this, Allen decides to follow his own path without the Noah and the Order and opens a portal, via Ark. Just before he steps through to leave, Lenalee catches up to him and begs him not to go because if he does it means they will have to fight each other. Allen hugs her and assures her that he will always remain an exorcist even though their paths may be different. Before he leaves, he tells Lenalee that he loves her and everyone else at the Order, and that he will always consider the Order his home. He then walks through the Ark Gate, which crumbles after him as Lenalee falls to her knees and screams after him in sorrow.

Searching for A.W. arc

Allen hiding Hallow

Allen hiding from Apocryphos

It is then revealed how Cross took care of Allen after Mana died, and current Allen is seen returning to this place. There he meets Barba and Mother who are overjoyed to see him. He retrieves his clown stuff and departs. During his mare, Allen has been surviving by doing clown performance as well as gambling (and cheating). Because of his "winning methods" namely to the detriment of mafia bosses, Allen was banned from more than a few gambling houses. [3] Three months later, he is found lying in an alley in an unknown city by a young girl while emitting feathery-tendrils of Innocence from his body. When she asks if he is an angel he quickly places a finger in front of her mouth to make her stop talking. It is revealed that he is still being tracked by Apocryphos, who has just arrived at the train station.

Some time later he is seen performing a street show in his clown outfit and sees Johnny, which shocks him. He quickly and silently approaches him with his hat for money and then gets even more surprised to see Kanda, who approaches Johnny when the latter discovers they lost all their money. Johnny leaves to earn some money while Kanda stares at a terrorized Allen, who averted his gaze last minute (to keep Kanda form seeing his face) by doing more tricks. Kanda declares he wants to "slice him up a little," but Johnny drags him away, relieving Allen. However, his eye activates and an Akuma attacks from below. Kanda tries to destroy the Akuma, but it explodes as Allen emerges with his Innocence activated in front of the duo.

Allen Clown

Allen revealing himself by activating Crown Clown to save the townsfolk from akuma

When Johnny tries to hug Allen, he pushes him away and tries to run for it. Kanda pulled him down and used Johnny's cloth to wipe Allen's face make-up. Akuma started to appear in the middle of Allen's argument with Kanda, and in the middle of the battle, Allen was questioned by Kanda of Howard Link's death, taking Allen by surprise. Allen became furious when he figured out that it was Apocryphos who murdered Link. When more Akuma arrive, Allen tries to get away because he knows the Akuma are coming for him and they were fighting in a crowded street. When running away, Wisely and Tyki taunt Allen, saying they will use Allen "as bait for Apocryphos". Suddenly, the 14th starts to resurface, much to Allen's dismay.

While attempting to get away from Johnny and Kanda, Allen starts to lose control to Nea and takes refuge underneath a stone bridge, not knowing that Johnny had implanted a tracking device in his hair when he had hugged him. Allen gets angry when Timcanpy suddenly bites his head, not knowing that the golem is trying to eat the tracking device, and then Allen's pain suddenly worsens, and the panic of losing to Nea starts to make him paranoid. He then hallucinates someone similar in appearance to Tyki asking him (Nea) if he hates him, and before the hallucination can go any further an Akuma emerges beneath Allen.

Allen unconcious

Allen lies unconcious and wounded

Before it can attack, Kanda and Johnny catch up, Kanda defeating the Akuma while Johnny tends to Allen. Allen snaps at them both, refusing to let them touch him, and then turns his anger on Kanda, demanding to know why he came back rather than staying with Alma. Kanda's heated answer makes Allen realize that Alma has died, which makes him cry before he collapses in pain. Kanda realizes that the wound that is bothering Allen is the one he had caused with Mugen at the North American Branch, and Johnny sees that his Innocence is trying to heal it, as it had when Tyki had punctured his heart.

When Allen falls unconscious, Johnny and Kanda take him to a hotel to rest, Johnny staying by his side and urging him to fight.

In Allen's mind, he is being shown some of Nea's memories, and he starts talking aloud in his sleep the lines that Nea said to Mana. While Allen is still watching Nea as young child with Mana, the Nea takes over Allen's body and incapacitates Johnny. As Nea is surprised by Allen's appearance he asks Timcampy about Allen. Just then, Kanda enters and places his sword at Allen's throat demanding to know if he's the 14th. However, Nea let Allen control his body after having a talk with Tim privately.

Allen throat

Kanda puts his blade under Allen's throat

Allen is horrified by Kanda's blade at his throat, stating he's Allen, but Kanda does not believe him and points to the injured Johnny before saving him. Allen, realizing the 14th hurt Johnny, is in disbelief that he hurt his friend. Johnny (even knowing Allen nearly killed him) tries to get close to him, but Allen tells him to stay away while activating his Crown Clown. He declares he is going to fight his own way as an exorcist and begins crying and says how sorry he is to Johnny, yet he still does not want to give up despite the situation. However, he is shocked by Johnny's determination to help him as his friend and, in a moment of surprise, Allen starts blushing uncontrollably. Kanda and Johnny use this moment to tie him up.

Allen is then forced into "Johnny's Speedy Repair Service." He's handcuffed to Johnny so he can't run away again. While helping the business, he thinks he should leave since the 14th harmed Johnny so easily. He also realizes how lonely he was and that the Noah and the Order are not the only ones after him when his Innocence activates alerting him to Apocryphos' presence. He runs out of the shop he and Johnny were working on a repair, trying to put as much distance between himself and Apocryphos when he hears someone call "14th..." and turns to find the Earl before him.

Allen and earl

Allen bumps into the earl

Seeing the Earl before him, the Earl then blows a balloon up and Allen questions his reasons for appearing, believing the Earl wanted him to lure out Apocryphos. Johnny's gadget then reacts and zaps him, causing Allen to try and bite it off annoyed how the Black Order's gadgets still haunt him. The Earl then tries to crush him, but Allen dodges and begins to question the Earl's odd behavior. He tries to activate his Crown Clown but Allen gets no response and notes the Earl has lost it and wonders if it has something to do with the 14th. As Johnny arrives, the Earl smashes Allen into a wall and Johnny saves him from getting crushed stating he'll save him despite Allen's pleas for him to leave him. As the Earl throws Johnny away, Allen and the Earl seemingly lock minds as Allen sees flashbacks of Road protecting Mana from what appears to be an angry Nea and later Mana in a field seeing the Earl kill their mother calling him "Mana D. Campbell" and he brought upon this tragedy. While questioning what he saw, the Earl mutters Mana's name over and over and states Mana is the cause of everything.

Allen in Nea's Inner World

Allen (as a child in Nea's inner world) resolves to keep his oath to Mana and keep on walking.

Soon afterwards, Nea awakens in Allen again and takes the complete control over his body, acting on his own will. At the same time, Allen finds himself in the middle of the wheat field, which he recognises as Nea's memories. While wondering about his and Johnny's current situation and fearing he's being absorbed by these memories, Allen meets with the image of Cross, who tells him that it's his final destination.[11] Cross explains that Allen will disappear like the soul trapped in an akuma, these words shock Allen. [12] Allen insists that he wants to know more about Nea, if it could at least give him a chance to try and change something. Cross asks him if there is anything to change in the first place, instead telling Allen to cease his resistance and that it's the best choice to accept the fact that he's going to disappear. However, Cross also says that he never wished for Allen's destruction. He is, after all, Allen's master, and offers to stay with Allen till his end if he was scared. He says that option for Allen to be free from all his sufferings and rest in peace was still open. Allen is ready to agree, yet he remembers his friends and the path he swore to follow, after which he resolves to continue walking until the very end of the war.[11]

Astonished, Cross tells him to go alone and suggests that Allen must open his eyes and find the Campbell mansion and the woman, Katerina if he wants to find out the truth about the war, although he admits he'd rather have Allen disappear. When Cross vanishes, Allen suddenly realizes it probably wasn't an illusion. [11]

Allen in Nea's Inner world 2

Allen discovering the mansion that holds Nea's and Mana's past in Nea's inner world

Allen thinks that he will learn the truth about the 14th and will come to understand him. Since his goal was defined, all he has to do is to move forward. However, he wonders how he's going to escape Nea's subconsciousness he's currently trapped into. Suddenly, he hears Johnny's voice which prompts him to fight. Allen sees the image of Johnny who declares he'll become his beacon, and then the scene of him staying on Allen's side when he was unconscious the night before. Allen is shocked to learn that Johnny was calling out for him, despite him hurting Johnny earlier. Johnny assures him that the bonds between people are strong and no matter where they are or how far apart, they remain connected. Allen, encouraged by the memories of his friends and the Black Order, screams out for Nea to give his body back. In the real world, when Nea loses the control over Allen's body, it begins to fall out from a rooftop, and Johnny jumps after him. Eventually, Allen regains his consciousness and activates his Crown Clown in order to catch Johnny and safely land on the ground. He smells Johnny's scent and recognizes the Science section's smell. Allen looks around and realizes with great relief that he came back to the real world. Allen and Johnny hug each other and cry of joy. [12] Allen states that the Science Division really overdoes it, despite his earlier words to Johnny to stay away from him, much to the latter's joy.[13]

Allen thinks to himself that he was running away from Johnny and the others earlier. They are interrupted by Tyki Mikk who grabs Allen's hand to check that he is not Nea anymore. Allen freaked out, pins Tyki on the ground. Johnny and Allen quickly chat about what happened. Johnny learns that Allen had no clue what happened while Nea was in control and Allen learn that Johnny was unconscious. Tyki Mikk suddenly decides to bring Allen home with him but he is fortunately stopped by a creation of Froi Tiedoll which creates a huge explosion. Allen and Johnny are blown away and Allen has some trouble to get up as he out of synchronization with his body. Allen thinks that he must call Timcanpy so they can leave the area but something forms from the ground beneath them and in a few seconds they find themselves trapped in a coach which drives them far from the area. Johnny understands that this is General Froi Tiedoll's work and that the Black Order found them. Johnny panicks as he notes "this is bad". Allen tries to open the curtains but to no avail. He thinks that he doesn't have the time to be taken back by the Order and he needs to go to the that Residence. The carriage stops and the curtains open to show Yu Kanda and Tiedoll.[12]

Allen defense

Allen gets defensive

Allen first only sees Kanda (who is the one who opened the curtains). He and Johnny soon realize the presence of the general and Allen immediately invokes crown clown, ready to fight. He assumes that after all, Johnny and Kanda really were here on the Order's behalf to capture him. He cuts open that he will kick Tiedoll's ass and escape this coach prison. Kanda cuts him and explains the situation: the whole area is surrounded by the order. Allen does not intend to listen to him and brandishes his sword instead. The blade is parried by Kanda. Allen protests that he is alright on his own and can get by himself with Timcanpy. He feels cramped as Kanda pushes him against the carriage.

Bewildered Allen

Suddenly Allen feels the presence of Nea within him and falls on his knees. He shouts to Johnny who was about to help that he is fine. Allen proclaims that if they're not going to take him they should just leave him. In his current condition he can't protect a simple human like Johnny and Kanda with his reducing lifespan, calling them "fragile beings".  Seing the reactions of the two, Allen realizes what he's done and avoids their glance. Kanda decides to knock Allen out and grabs him by the collar only to be stopped by Johnny.

Kanda shows shard

Allen learns about Timcanpy

General Froi Tiedoll speaks in and after giving a piece of advice to Kanda, he gets a jar out of his bad. Allen and Johnny wonder if this is salt. Kanda then questions Allen about the thing who is after him, the human shaped innocence. He reveals that Timcanpy attempted to protect Allen and got destroyed by a shard of wood for it. Allen is utterly disturbed by Kanda's words, so much that he can't think clearly and his heartbeat fastens. Kanda finally points at the jar: the power is what is left of Timcanpy. [14]

Allen recalls his encounter with the golems and all the moments they shared. He gets his hand closer to the jar as his lips quiver.

Powers and Abilities

Physical Prowess: Due to his Innocence being largely used for close combat, Allen is noted to be above normal human standards in terms of physical fitness, making him able to perform in seemingly physically impossible workouts[15] and hold back Akuma attacks that are known to take out walls. His physical abilities are only increased when his Innocence is activated.

Amateur Swordsmanship: After Allen receives his Sword of Exorcism, he begins training with Kanda to develop his swordsmanship skills, though after losing in a spar he reverted to physical brawling.[16]

Martial Skills: He can hold his own against Marie during a sparing match. Allen was able to fight a level 3 akuma without his innocence and with only one arm for a little while.

Innocence

  • Cross (十字架(クロス), Kurosu?, lit. Cross Stand): Cross is a parasitic type Anti-Akuma Weapon that is centralized in the cross-shaped, stone-like Innocence embedded in the back of Allen's left hand. The Innocence has caused Allen's entire arm to be taken over by Innocence, so his arm from the shoulder down is actually "foreign" tissue that his body symbiotically accepts as part of himself. Originally, Allen's arm was quite veinous and red, but over time its color has darkened and the skin has smoothed out, taking on a slightly more normal appearance. In terms of its naming, "jūjika" is a term for the type of cross rack used for crucifying, different from the usual usage of cross and/or cruciform.
    • Allen Walker - Cross

      Cross α invoked

Cross α (alpha): The first and most basic form of Allen's Innocence augments his left arm into a monstrous adamantine claw with a supernatural glow at Allen's scapula-joint. At this phase, his Innocence is capable of manipulating its size and shape even to extreme ends, such as when it grew enough to grab the entire body of the mountain-sized Fallen One, Suman Dark. While very durable against Akuma and Dark Matter, it can easily be damaged by Innocence, shown by the dents left on it when Kanda sliced it with his Mugen and the bites that Krory left on his hand.
  • Cross Grave (十字架ノ墓(クロス・グレイヴ), Kurosu Gureibu?, lit. Cross Stand's Grave/Tomb): At the first level of invocation, the Innocence's power can be channeled into one powerful stream, capable of destroying multiple Level 1 Akuma simultaneously, and leaves a cruciform of energy behind on each of its targets (hence the name should Allen defeat a group of Akuma with it).[17]
    • In the games Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars, Cross Grave is instead a palm-slamming smash attack with the Innocence that causes a shock wave, but also has an effect of breaking guards (being unblockable as well; it is outright unblockable with no guard-break effect in JSS). The energy stream from the attack is able to emit from whatever surface Allen strikes/impacts with it, and the cruciforms appear as usual (only if Allen hits anything with it).
      • Minor versions of this attack can be used as Allen's Punt Attack in Super Stars. In both Super and Ultimate, his 4 Koma version Cross Grave's shockwave is blue-colored. While in Super Stars, his 5 Koma Cross Grave is red-colored and covers a large area in front of him. The attack was greatly nerfed in Ultimate Stars among several moves (in terms of shock wave size and power), and the 5 Koma version is instead colored yellow.
    • Allen Walker - Cross Paling

      Cross β activated

Cross β (beta): This evolution takes a more offensive approach, in the form of a massive arm-cannon with his fingers becoming energy spikes.[18] This form is capable of both ranged and melee combat, but tends to use up more energy initially.
    • Cross Paling (十字架ノ杭(クロス・バリング), Kurosu Baringu?, lit. Cross Stand's Paling/Stake):At its second phase of invocation, Allen's Innocence is capable of firing volleys of rod-shaped energy palings; these laser stakes are made of hard-light Innocence energy, which enables them to picket the ground and fence in the adversary, or to pile upon them.[19]
      • In the anime, the laser stakes are colored yellow along with his β version fingers. Jump Super/Ultimate Stars instead colors the stakes green and his fingers to be grayish white (same color as his arm cannon).
    • Cross Spear (十字架ノ槍(クロス・スピアー), Kurosu Supiā?, lit. Cross Stand's Spear): Also in its second phase of invocation, Allen is capable of focusing the barrel of his Innocence-cannon to generate a spear-like energy paling, which can then be used like a sword.[20]
Allen Walker - Crown Clown

Crown Clown invoked

  • Crown Clown (神ノ道化(クラウン・クラウン), Kuraun Kuraun?, lit. God's Clown): After Allen's Cross was nearly destroyed by Tyki Mikk, who crushed it and reduced it to particles, the Innocence particles hung around Allen, keeping him alive by healing a hole in his heart. When it was discovered that Allen's Innocence was still viable, Allen began to work hard to attempt to synchronize, though his initial efforts were all failures. It was only while battling Thread and gaining a new, strengthened resolve that Allen was able to properly reconnect with his Innocence, at which point it evolved.
    • When invoked, Crown Clown acts as a body-armored Innocence, forming a white-hooded cowl and sleeve of Innocence energy which covers his shoulders and right arm, while his left arm and hand become slender and black, clad in armor and razor sharp claws. A masquerade-style mask is always affixed to the cowl, which takes on various configurations and appearances. This transformation also changes Allen's usual hairstyle from flat to a spiky rear. As before, his Innocence possesses a certain degree of sentience, such as when Crown Clown is able to manipulate Allen's entire body like a marionette when incapacitated, or simply assisting in evasive tactics. When not activated, his arm is black and meets with his shoulder in a spiraling pattern that ends with tattoo-like emblem.
    • Cross Grave (十字架ノ墓(クロス・グレイヴ), Kurosu Gureibu?, lit. Cross Stand's Grave/Tomb): Much more powerful than its previous incarnation, Allen can crucify targets simply by etching a cross upon them with his left hand, effectively annihilating even Level 3 Akuma with a single talon.[21] It can now also be used defensively, generation a shield by drawing a cross on the air.
    • Clown Belt (道化ノ帯(クラウン・ベルト), Kuraun Beruto?, lit. Clown's Belt/Sash): The cape of Allen's cowl is released as a webbing of Innocence-energy that can be used to grasp objects, immobilize opponents, or form hardened spikes to impale enemies. It can also be released from the sleeve and glove on Allen's right arm.[22] The ribbons of energy were once used by Crown Clown itself to wrap around Allen's limbs and control him like a puppet when Allen was too injured to move by himself.[23]
    • Crown Edge (爪ノ王輪(クラウン・エッジ), Kuraun Ejji?, lit. Claw's King Ring): A projectile attack which unleashes a barrage of crown-shaped rings from the clawed fingers on Allen's left hand.[24]
    • Edge End (破滅ノ爪(エッジ・エンド), Ejji Endo?, lit. Claw of Destruction): A swipe of raw destructive power dealt with Allen's fully-invoked claw.[25]
    • In Jump Ultimate Stars, Allen instead fires the claw forward like an energy beam blast.
    • Self manipulation: By wearing Crown Clown and commanding it with his mind Allen can force his own body to move even if it is too physically damaged to move normally.

Sword of Exorcism

Allen Walker - Sword of Exorcism

Allen drawing the Sword of Exorcism for the first time

  • Sword of Exorcism (退魔ノ剣(たいまけん), Taimaken?, lit. Repelling Demon's Sword): When Allen's synchronization rate exceeds 100%, he is able to transmute his entire left arm into a large broadsword with a cross emblazoned on the faces of the blade. In doing so, his left shoulder is capped with a cross-shaped emblem, and his cowl usually forms a cloak to cover the missing arm. Once invoked, the blade can exorcise evil from any vessel it strikes, though it does not harm humans; this means that Allen can damage the inner Noah of members of the Noah family without killing their human bodies. If used against Level 1 to Level 3 Akuma, it vanquishes them in the same effect as the Cross Grave attack, leaving a residual glowing cross crest in the wake of the defeated Akuma. However, in the case of a Level 4 Akuma the sword carries a diminished effect. Allen is shown with the ability to telepathically recall the Sword to himself, should it be separated from his body.[26] It is noted by Lero that the design of the sword is the same as the sword of the Earl of Millennium except for the inverse color.
  • Death Orbs (破壊咆哮(デス・ボール), Desu Bōru?, lit. Destruction Roaring Howl): Called Death Ball in the original translation. When using the Sword of Exorcism, Allen can create a series of large explosions. This technique heavily exhausts Allen.[27]

The Cursed Eye

In addition to his Innocence, the reverse pentacle that scars his left eye curses Allen with the power to see the souls trapped inside Akuma. Allen received the cursed scar from Mana, who lashed out and cut Allen's face when he realized Allen had brought him back as an Akuma. Allen has said that it's "just like an Akuma" in the way that it evolves. The Earl, who was angered by the abilities of Allen's eye, has managed to develop seals that prevent the eye from activating. Sometimes, the pentagram section of the scar is drawn as the Sigil of Baphomet, the official insignia of the Church of Satan and an associated symbol of other organizations aligned with Satanism and the Left-Hand Path.

Allen eye

The Cursed Eye Level 1

  • The Cursed Eye Level 1: The first incarnation of the curse is a black and red ringed eye which is automatically activated whenever Allen is near Akuma. It allows him the power to see the souls trapped inside Akuma. When Allen witnessed the self-destruction (under Road's orders) of the Level 2 Akuma and the disintegration of the soul powering it, his cursed eye bled in pain.
Allen's Cursed Eye 2

The Cursed Eye Level 2

  • The Cursed Eye Level 2: During the vampire incident involving the Eliade-Akuma and Arystar Krory, Allen's curse grew stronger, resulting in his eye undergoing some dramatic changes. Resembling a sort of cogwheel monocle, this new cursed eye enables Allen to pinpoint an Akuma's position even when they are not visible to the naked eye, regardless of obstacles, from a distance of up to 350 meters away. But the most astounding change is that others close to Allen are able to see the lost souls trapped within Akuma as well. After witnessing Allen's 'world of black and white', Lavi comments that 'the world that Allen sees is Hell.' However, the cursed eye appears to lust for the destruction of Akuma, often causing pain to Allen in the middle of the night by self-activating, as though "it is a sin to be sleeping instead of destroying Akuma". The eye also seems to activate itself even when no Akuma are nearby as long as dark matter is being used, such as when Allen is caught in the Noah Tyki Mikk's vacuum.
Cursed eye 3

The Cursed Eye Level 3

  • The Cursed Eye Level 3: Advanced Cursed Eye: During the fight against Alma Karma, it was shown that Allen's eye has become more advanced, his pupil gaining instead of the red circles, a reverse pentagram.[28]

Nea Walker

Nea and Allen

Nea and Allen meet inside Allen's subconscious.

During some point in his life, Allen was "implanted" with the presence of Nea Walker, the traitorous Fourteenth Noah who attempted to kill the entire Noah Family thirty-five years ago in a self-proclaimed effort to become the next Earl of Millennium. Although it is not clear how Nea's presence was implanted in Allen when Nea's coup failed and he was killed quite some time before Allen was even born.

Nea's presence in Allen's mind has given Allen several key powers, the most prominent one being Allen's ability to control the original Noah's Ark as well as creating gates in and out of Ark from will and destroy them too. To do so he uses magic incantations that come to his mind from the fourteenth memory when he wishes to control the ark. The Ark has some mechanics that only the fourteenth knows of, this is why the earl wanted to get rid of it. [29]

However, Nea has also begun to take over Allen's body, having been seen taking dominance several times and controlling Allen's body for brief periods, one time doing this to openly taunt the Earl and announce his intentions to return and become the next Earl of Millennium.[30] It has also been explained to Allen that Nea's gradual return will eventually completely destroy Allen's presence in his own body;[31] though it had already started to happen when Allen had been told this, Allen having been seeing an odd, looming shadow that no one else could see,[32] recently Nea's return efforts have been more violent, Allen once coughing up blood as he attempted to fight him off[33] and more recently, Akuma starting to flock to Allen's side to attack him, claiming to feel the presence of a Noah, which shows that Nea's presence is closer to the surface than it previously was.[34]

In Chapter 219, Nea successfully took over Allen's body in the presence of the Millennium Earl. In this chapter, Nea and Mana's past as brothers was revealed. It was also revealed that Mana D. Campbell is none other than the current Millennium Earl. Despite his hatred towards his brother, he wondered why he still couldn't help but be by his side. Nea stated that not only his face had changed but also his memories were lost. Mana forgot about the fact that he and Nea were twins. Nea also clarified that the Earl and their mother named Katerina are not their real parents but Katerina only adopted them the same time the Earl disappeared after suffering for 7000 years. He revealed that Mana and Nea are both the "Millennium Earl".

Allenmana

Allen and Mana

Mana Walker: Mana is Allen's adoptive father whom Allen turned into an Akuma and destroyed with his own hands. Mana found Allen, an orphan working at the circus he joined, and adopted the boy upon his departure. As Mana was the first person who had treated him with kindness, Allen loved Mana dearly, to the point that when Mana died, their bond was powerful enough for Allen to call Mana back as an Akuma. Allen was then cursed by Mana's Akuma to perpetually see the suffering of the trapped souls. Upon his recovery, Allen decided to become an Exorcist for Mana's sake. Mana's motto "Don't stop, keep moving forward" also became the words Allen would vow to live by until his last breath. Mana's influence goes beyond Allen's goal in life, however; Allen went as far as adopting Mana's personality, his polite manner of speech being the most prominent trait. After Mana's true origin is revealed as the 14th Noah's brother, Allen began to doubt Mana's love and was unsure what to make of him, though he proclaimed that he still loves Mana regardless and intends to keep his promise. It is unclear how Allen's feelings towards Mana will develop as he learns more about the truth behind the Holy War.

Allentim

Allen reuniting with Tim

Timcanpy: Timcanpy is Allen's (formerly Cross's and Neah’s) loyal golem. The two care greatly for each other, Timcanpy refusing to leave Allen's side when he was attacked by Tyki Mikk and even sacrificing himself to buy time for Allen to flee Apocryphos. Allen in turn deeply cares for Timcanpy, to the point that Apocryphos stated Timcanpy is Allen’s only mental support during his isolation as fugitive from the Order, and Allen is shown to be devastated when he learned of Timcanpy’s supposed ‘death’ in recent chapters. Timcanpy’s loyalty, however, may be due to the fact that Allen is the host for his former master, Neah, though he is shown to be deeply conflicted between Neah and Allen. He broke down in tears when questioned by Kanda, as saving either would result in the destruction of the other.

Allenkanda

Allen and Kanda fighting

Kanda Yuu: Kanda is an Exorcist in the Black Order and Allen's partner in his first mission in Mater. Kanda is one of the very few people who can drive Allen mad and break his gentlemanly act. Having completely opposite personalities and values, the pair did not get along right from the start; while Allen is gentlemanly, kind and idealistic, Kanda is cold, unpleasant and cynical. The two frequently get into physical and verbal fights, with Kanda calling Allen "Moyashi" (Beansprout) and Allen calling Kanda "Bakanda" (Stupid Kanda) in retaliation. They also seem to be obsessed with shaving each other's hair for some reason.

Though they constantly fight, Allen still considers Kanda a friend. Kanda also warms up to him after Allen goes against the Order to let Kanda and Alma escape. To repay Allen for giving him and the love of his life one last moment of freedom, Kanda willingly returns to aid Johnny in searching for and protecting Allen, feeling guilty for intentionally overlooking Allen's Noah awakening out of his hatred for the Order. After Lulu Bell's attack on the Order, Allen asks Kanda to help train him in swordcraft, as he now has a sword as one of his weapons, though the training session somehow escalated into a duel, then dissolved into a fistfight.

Allenlavi

Allen and Lavi

Lavi: As Bookman's successor, Lavi's duty is to help Bookman observe Allen, who according to Bookman's interpretation of Hevlaska's prophecy might play a significant role in history. Upon meeting him in Germany after recruiting Miranda, Lavi immediately cozies up to Allen, treating him like a younger brother. Lavi is fond of teasing Allen, drawing on his face while he is sleeping, and calling him by his hated nickname, "Beansprout", just to annoy him, though lately he has become fed up with Allen and Kanda's frequent fights.

Though initially Lavi's carefree, playful personality is supposed to be a mere act to blend in, with time, Lavi had come to genuinely care for Allen, as shown by his holding onto Allen's only remaining playing card, and his uncharacteristic rage against Tyki. Allen in return considers Lavi a dear friend, as shown when Lavi had been manipulated by Road, Allen could not bring himself to attack Lavi with Clown Edge, even with Lenalee and Chaoji's life at stake, instead choosing to be killed rather than hurting him. Allen was also driven into a blind rage against the Earl when Lavi seemingly falls to his death in the Ark. Allen and Lavi usually get along very well, though they occasionally squabble over petty issues and play pranks on each other.

Allenkrory

Allen and Krory

Arystar Krory III: Allen, along with Lavi, is the first friend Krory ever made. Krory was secluded in his castle until then, so their friendship is important to him. Krory began to depend on Allen and Lavi, especially after leaving his castle for the first time, needing them to help him discover and navigate the outside world. Allen and Lavi act as a landmark for Krory; when the European branch was turned into zombies, Krory immediately looked for Lavi and Allen. Allen was shown to trust Krory during the fight with Jasdevi and they are good at fighting together. Krory willingly sacrificed himself to allow his friends to go on. Especially when his innocence is activated, When his innocence is activated, Krory seems to consider Allen as a kid he as an adult is responsible for. Furthermore, when Allen is branded as a Noah, Krory still believes in him and considers him a friend, and is saddened by Chaozii's grudge.

Trivia

  • It is known that Allen can get lost very easily as seen when he was in Mater. Some people also constantly remind him to not get lost.
  • In the one-shot Zone it is shown that the beta for Allen was originally Robin. A 'female' Akuma turned by Cross by being fused with an Anti-Akuma weapon. Robin is the name of the body she is in, which was her brother's (both name and body).
  • In the D.Gray-Man Popularity polls Allen placed 1st in the initial poll and 2nd in the next poll (losing out to Yū Kanda), then placed 1st again in the third poll and in the latest poll he's placed 2nd ( Again losing out to Yu Kanda.)
  • In the character book, Allen reveals that once, he got into some of his master's alcohol-filled chocolates. He says Cross punished him like never before and made him promise to not touch alcohol again. Lavi wonders what Cross did to him.
  • Allen's favorite food is mitarashi dango and his hobbies are making money, acrobatics and eating. He likes Tim, food, poker and Mana and dislikes people who don't know how to appreciate money. [35]
  • One of the 1st things Allen does when waking up in the morning is counting money.
  • According to Hoshino, Allen is ambidextrous.[36] This is likely because his left hand was unusable when he was very young and he had to learn to use his right hand instead.
  • Allen can see very well in the dark, almost like "night-vision" he described from training with Cross.
  • In D.Gray-Man Reverse Volume 3, Lost Fragment of Snow, it is revealed he never actually had a name and that "Allen" was the name of Mana's dog, which he used as his name later on when Mana had gone insane. He was nicknamed "Red" during his days in the circus because of his arm.
  • As seen in chapter 19, Allen is bad at drawing.
  • In the D. Gray Man Hallow anime, there are some differences in depiction of Allen's Cursed Eye compared to the manga and the original anime. The pupil contains no rings, while sclerae and monocle change colours throughout the episodes (the sclerae being a regular white one, but later becoming reddish and the monocle depicted as black, but also turning red later). His arm is also changed to a reddish color instead of the black that was used in the 2008 series.
  • It is stated that Allen was found and adopted by Mana on December 25th (Christmas) in the first volume.
  • Allen's best clown trick is acrobatics. Because of the lion and cage incident in Reverse he is scared to do any wild-animal taming performance. [3]
  • If the Black Order was a neighbourhood, Allen would see Marie as his big brother, Jeryy and Link as his mothers, Lavi as the neighbourhood flashy NEET, Timcanpy as his younger brother and Johnny, Lenalee and Krory as his classmates. [37]
  • Allen has rather poor reading and writing skills as he didn't think they would be useful before joining the Order. Krory provided some lessons to him. [38]
  • Allen spends a lot of time in the bath. But he spends more time polishing Timcanpy than washing his own body... [38]
  • Allen's hobbies are polishing Tim, hoarding money and acrobatics. He likes Tim, food, poker and Mana. He dislikes people who don't know how to appreciate money. His necessities are Timcanpy, Akumas, Mana's words and his promise to Lenalee.[6]
  • According to Katsura Hoshino, Allen's image colour is purple and emerald. [39]
  • Allen displays numerous similarities with Edward Elric the main protagonist of Fullmetal Alchemist. They are both 15 years old at the beginning of the story. They both lost a parent that they tried to resurrect and failed horrifically. They also both have a special arm.
  • When he is embarrassed, Allen has a habit of rubbing above his mouth with his index finger.
